Oregon Inlet Fishing Report 07/11/2008

Bigeyes tunas provided some exciting offshore fishing.Good size Yellowfins were also caught.Dolphin were not as plentiful as they usually are this time of the year. There were some nice gaffers amongst the dolphin that were caught. One was a citation at 58 pounds. Seven of the big eye tunas were citations their weights weere 100 pounds 8 ounces, 114 pounds 131, 135, 137 144 and finnally a 200 pounder. One party from the Florida keyes came last year and this year. They had a good day today. A young member of the party Nick Varner stuck with one of those tunas earning the admiration of everyone aboard. Inshore open boats caught sharks and amberjacks on all day trips. Quite a few of these sharks were spinners. The spinners run from 20 to 30 pounds. They are specaacular jumping and spinning. The black tips are jumpers also.Most of the sharks are released. On half days there was good trigger fishing in the morning and good sheepshead fishing in the afternoon. Miss Oregon Inlet caught croakers and spots.
