Barnegat Light Report 07/11/2008
The barnegat bay has been producing some good catch of nice sized weakfish during the early morning hours on both artificials and also on baits. Seems the morning bit has been the best with many choosing either jigs, gulp, and other live/dead bait combos. There has also been some good fluke fishing inside the barnegat bay and there have been reports of some nice sized keepers as well.
The bluefish have made their appearence into the barnegat inlet and all the boat fisherman as well as the surf fisherman have been able to get in on the action from both the north and south jetties as well as off boats. They have been taken on artificials, plugs, and metal of all kinds. The beach front has also been producing some numbers of bass, bluefish, and fluke as well. Most of the fisherman have been using clams and bunker for bass, bunker and artificials for bluefish, and squid/spearing or gulp and spearing for most of the fluke action. It has been favorable to the fisherman and the weather patterns over the next few days should be in our favor! On the ocean front things have been getting much better with fluke being the most sought after catch the past week. There have been many shorts with a decent amount of keepers mixed in. The bait of choice for most fisherman has been squid strips, gulp, spearing, minnows, and some prefer to live bait for the BIG fluke! Either way you go for it there should be plenty of actions for everyone to have a good time and feel the tug on the other end of the line. Now to the offshore action which has been on fire so to speak the past few weeks. We have had numerous boats coming in reporting good catches from the north tip of the hudson all the way down to the wilmington. Seems the troll bite is the way to go and is the best producing method this time of year. Some of the hot tickets have been skirted ballyhoo and spreader bars. There have been yellowfin tuna, big eye tuna, and also a good amount of Mahi Mahi coming from the edge in all shades of water from green to blue. The best bet is to get out there, find the bait, and load up on fish! Tight lines and screaming reels!! |
