Quepos, Costa Rica Sailfishing

This is a 2 day report from Dave Dobbins aboard the LaManta out of Quepos, Costa Rica.


Day 1: 2-8-08

"Today was a trip from Rich Coast with David and Evan Margulies who hail from New Jersey. The fishing for the fleet out of Quepos, Costa Rica was extremely slow today. We just happened to have a perfect day hooking and landing every fish we raised. Six for six on sailfish and two for two on Dorado's. Of the 20 or so boats fishing out of Quepos, Costa Rica we were top boat as only one other boat had five sailfish and most everyone else was lucky to get two sailfish and a Dorado. David is Evan's dad and this was a graduation present as he had just graduated from Temple! Everyone on board had a great time, Congratulations!!! Note the mystery mate...."

Day 2: 2-11-08
"Today was the second and final day of Sport fishing out of Quepos, Costa Rica for David and Evan Margulies. They had done well on Friday for sailfish so they decided they wanted tunas today. The first thing we did was head to the rock pile to make bait which we did in short order. We then ran out to the corner looking. We put out some marlin stuff and started trolling south at nine knots and rite away had a sailfish up on the teaser. Phil picked him off and we were off to a good start. We continued to see a lot of sailfish but never raised a marlin. We did find some spinners at 25 miles but they were empty, no birds or tunas. We ended up with 4 sailfish on eight bites and a small Dorado which we released. Thanks again to Dave and Evan, hope to see you next year."
