THE PRESIDENTIAL PAPAGAYO CUP

GENERAL INFORMATION

The Presidential Papagayo Cup is slated to become the hottest new tournament in Costa Rica, combining the finest in luxury at Marina Papagayo with a competitive, high-energy format and the opportunity for the top teams to fish for tens of thousands of dollars.

Marina Papagayo, in the northern Guanacaste province of Costa Rica, is a master-planned, full-service state-of-the-art marina with 180 slips accommodating every size of sportfisherman with the finest in amenities. The marina itself is sheltered within the towering cliffs of Culebra Bay yet it's a reasonably short run to some of the most productive fishing grounds in the country. Just a short distance away, located on the exclusive Papagayo Peninsula, is the Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica, the shining star of the 2,300-acre luxury residential resort. Marina Papagayo is also easily accessible, just 30 minutes by car from the Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia,Costa Rica.

The Presidential Papagayo Cup is scheduled for June 22-25, 2011 in order to take advantage of both the calm summer season weather as well as the outstanding billfishing for which northern Costa Rica is famous during these months. It's not uncommon to encounter blue, black and striped marlin as well as sailfish in June, so the opportunity for a Grand Slam also exists. The entry fee will be $5,000 per team, and will include angler bags for each participant as well as an opening night kickoff cocktail party and awards ceremony and dinner at the close of the tournament. Additional optional jackpot levels will also be available for those who wish to participate, with 100 percent of the proceeds from the jackpot levels benefitting The Billfish Foundation's vital conservation work in the country.

As with all Presidential tournaments, the competition will be intense but fair, with multiple layers of security including onboard observers to ensure a level playing field for all participants. There will also be a Perpetual Trophy awarded to the team with the highest point total from the Presidential Challenge of Costa Rica and the Presidential Papagayo Cup, which will be presented at the conclusion of this year's tournament.
