Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Costa Rican Honeymoon

Lake Texoma Fishing Report :: Costa Rican Honeymoon
Fall topwater season is upon us and after 3 weeks off for my wedding and honeymoon in Costa Rica, I’m ready to get back to work. The wedding was absolutely perfect and Costa Rica was amazing! We spent 2 weeks there and took a tour of the whole country going from coast to coast. Of course I wouldn’t make it down to Costa Rica without doing some fishing. I caught a rooster fish and an amber jack on the Pacific side in Tamarindo. It was during the red tide so all the bill fish had left the area. We also did some scuba diving and saw sharks and rays. From there we went to the cloud forests of Monte Verde and on to a volcanic hot springs spa at the base of an active volcano in Arenal, I had to throw something in there for Megan . Then it was on to more fishing on the C aribbean coast in Tortuguero for tarpon. Megan and I hooked and fought probably 10 tarpon while we were there and never boated a one. They say it is a 10% chance that you will actually land one after you hook it and I see why they way they jump. We got the most fun out of it though. We got to hook them and see them jump and feel the line sing off of the reel. It’s too much work to get them to the boat anyway .

The week before the wedding was the last time that I have fished Texoma. I took out a bunch of my friends and family to catch fish for our wedding reception dinner. There was a strong cold front blowing in that day and the fishing was awesome! We caught all that we needed and turned back some larger fish up to 10 lbs. I was glad to finally see the big fish coming shallow. I’ve heard that in absence fishing has remained hit and miss according to the w eather but the lake has risen and cooled down a bit and fishing should become steady very soon. The topwater bite for big fish should be on frorm now until the end of October. Fall is my favorite time to fish. The kids return to school, hunting season starts, and the lake is less crowed but the fish are still going nuts. My weekends are filling up for Sept. and October so if you would like a weekend trip then now is the time to book but weekdays will normally be available a week or so in advance. You can book your trip and check availability on line at www.stripersinc.com or you can call me anytime at (903)815-1609.
