We're still not fishing, but it is getting close. I had to get my butt up here to get ready for the Striper season here in NJ. Which is looking good. I'll report on that in the NJ report section. In any case I am very happy to be working with Capt. Dennis Wheeler who will not let this boat hit the water until it is in the best fishing condition possible.
My last day working on the boat was Friday the 19th and it was really still in tear down mode. We are working in Dennis' Antigua condo compound and it was a real trick getting the boat thru his front gate. We had a good inch and a half on each side and three inches on top with the flying bridge in the cockpit. It was a great idea to do the work there because Dennis has a great crew of workers available, his tool shop is right there and the adverage temperature is 75 degrees in the afternoon so you can actually get some work done. Down at Pez Vela Marina the temperature is closer to 95 degrees so after turning one screw it is time for a cold drink and a break.
Capt. Gerald Jordan will be taking the helm when we do get the boat launched. His vast experience fishing in general and particulary in Guatemala should have the Tijereta catching fish with the big girls. Capt. Gerry has of late been fishing the Carribean side of Guatemala out of Rio Dulce and has been discovering some great tarpon fishing and starting to nose out into the blue waters beyond the keys and finding some great wahoo action. I just hope we can keep him on the Pacific for a while.
Here's the last email I got from Capt. Dennis which looks real encouraging. and following are a few pictures of the work we are doing. I hope to get updated pictures as things happen. See lots more on the web site.
Dear Capt. David,
I hope the bass fishermen have you hoping. We are here working on the Tijereta. We have two carpenters, three fiberglass guys and Gerry and me getting in the way.Things are looking good. I also have the tailor guy making the bimmini top and another guy on the coast is making the cooming boards for the fishermen. With luck we might launch in two weeks. We are getting more excited everyday. I think we've got a winner. Dennis
We finally made it out of customs
We got to see lots of scenery even got a couple stops where we wrapped up a turbo hose.
It was a tight fit into the parking lot.
The crew is not afraid to get dirty.
She is back looking like a boat, but we will have to remove the flying bridge to get out of the lot, and a whole lot more is still going on. Check out the web site for more info.
