From Capt. Chris Sheeder aboard the Rum Line:
For the last two weeks, the coast of Guatemala has been flooded with pods of Sailfish fining and jumping everywhere. Fishing has been great with almost any direction, or spot producing.
Just after Thanksgiving, Tred Barta’s group arrived for a long overdue visit. It is his first trip since the accident. Tred, his wife Annie, and a film crew were there to shoot a couple of tv shows and get in some world-class sailfishing on light tackle. By that I mean 8-lb tackle or less! Tred and his crew fished on several of our boats including the Finest Kind with Capt. Chico and the old Circle Hook with Capt. Eddie along with Lodge owner Jim Turner and his three daughters. Tred fulfilled a dream of catching not one, but two sails on 2lb line. Later he coached Mary Kate, Bridget and Emily each to one 8lb line release.
Way to go Tred!
A Christmas party was held on the Lodge grounds with 350 of the local children receiving presents from Casa Vieja staff, our captains, Tred and the Davis Mitchell group.
We are happy to hear that he’s as crafty and chipper as ever.
06 thru 08 Dec:
The Mitchell group’s annual outing was a rousing success. The group consisting of Davis & son Landon Mitchell, Robert Gates and Doug Burton aboard the Finest Kind, , Bill McKinnell, David Lewsey, Gary Joyner & Chris Bruner aboard the Intensity and Thomas Snider, Brett Hardy, Andy Moir and Tom Loftin aboard the Pelagian.
Three day results are in: winning boat was Intensity Capt. Mike Sheeder with 31 releases; second place went to Pelagian with Capt. Nico with 30; and not far behind the Finest Kind with Capt. Chico with 23 releases.
At the same time, the Siska group was on its third trip of the year aboard the Rum Line with Capt. Chris Sheeder. The Tom Siska group spent three days flyfishing, raising 72 sails, catching 10. Ed Casale caught his 1st sail on fly.
Country western singer, Billy Currington and a film crew, were aboard the Allure with Capt. Kiwi. Fishing on the 7th they raised 23 with 17 releases.
Steady action seems to be expected, with everyone waiting for this massive quantity of fish to tighten up and make for a incredible bite.
Time is now to go fishing in Guatemala!
