    Exile Sportfishing in Venezuela

We have moved our Customized 45 foot Hatteras, Exile, to Venezuela. It is located at beautiful Mango Marina in Caraballeda, and we are about to start running marlin trips. It is easily accessable as we are located 30 minutes from the airport. We have been busy getting setup down here, but were able to run a trip this past Sunday. We raised 1 blue marlin, 6 white marlin, and 2 sailfish. The anglers were able to catch 1 blue and 3 whites. They had a great time as there was plenty of action.

If you are interested in fishing for billfish in Venezuela, please contact us at exilesportfishing@yahoo.com. Right now you have a great opportunity at catching a Grand Slam!!! We would love to get more people into the amazing action that Venezuela offers.

It was a long ride down, thats for sure. 13 days from Cape May to Venezuela. We chugged at 9-10 knots most of the way to save fuel and also not beat the boat up. We had 4 to 8 foot all of the way down, but that was not bad at all on the Hatt. We were on a tight scedule to get to Venezuela in order to fish the Venezuela Super Slam, and already having a late start due to weather gave us one day to lay somewhere.

The most memorable parts of the trip were-

Coming around Hatteras where we had plenty of wahoo bites. There was a big temperature break with plenty of well defined weed lines and pretty blue water. We were beat after what turned out to be the roughest night of the trip, and needed to get into Morehead City, NC to refuel and get going to Charleston, SC, so we were not able to hit any of it too hard.

Going from Turks and Caicos to Puerto Rico (390 miles) and crossing the Silver Bank. This Bank is right in the middle of nowhere on the way to PR and pops up from 13,500 feet of water. We had a full spread of plugs out and got bit by barracudas, mahi, and 3 blue marlin in the 200-300 pound range all in 2 hours. I would love to have a mother ship to take to that bank and fish it hard for a week. It is just about halfway from TC to PR. Wish we had more time to hit that area harder.

Other than that, it was a long trip with a lot of flying fish everywhere, plenty of salt, music, and movies. It was a cool experience stopping at all of the different ports, clearing customs, and seeing how things work at each place. It was most definitely an experience I will never forget. We had a few blue marlin bites in a few different areas, but due to our tight schedule, we did not fish really hard in many areas along the way.

I have to say, I am happy it was not too eventful, because usually the events you have are horror stories, and we were lucky enough to travel 2400 miles without one. Everything went smooth, and there was a lot of careful planning involved that paid off for that to happen.

Hoping to catch up on the fishing here in Venezuela. There really is phenominal billfishing down here!

Hey Thanks for the story on the trip. Perhaps this summer when you fish the Ocean City overnight tournament, I will run into you and we can discuss further. Sounds like the bank is the place to be.
