Going down to C/R Early Feb

Hey gang, I just booked my flight into San Jose, I'm gonna be hanging and crashing with a customer that has mad digs at los suenos but large sportfishers aren't really my thing, I will do a day or two on his Ocean but after that I know I'm going be hard up for a Cubera, Rooster or something to throw poppers or jigs at.

I hear C/R is very pricey, so perhaps to defer some expenses I could barter for some fishing or bring down any small tackle orders. I'm a Patriot Dealer, Varivas, TuffLine, Owner, Gammy, we import our own line of Shell Squids 6" 9" 12" and make our own spreader bars in 18", 24", 30" and 36" sizes. Please p/m for details or links.

What are the dates on your visit? I'm flying in the 9th of Feb and staying until the 25th. Where I'm at in the Osa is about a 2.5 hour drive from Suenos. Jigging and popping are the focus of most of my fishing....if you go through the deep jigging archive forums you'll see some of my reports. Lots of tank AJ's and cubrera down here. I burn my way through alot of Varivas shock leader. Maybe we could work something out.

I'd like to know what you expect of the weather up in Quepos and Sierpe during January and February. It has been very windy in San Jose this first few days of the 2010. Light posts and houses' roofs are being blown away beacuse of the cold fronts from USA and Mexico.

Is it choppy out there? How about the water temp, has it dropped somewhat? I hope it all goes away before my next trip at the end of the month.

    greetings and good fishing

January and February are the heart of the dry season in Costa Rica. You can expect your days to be hot and clear. The high winds and turbulance that the central valley was experiencing is more or less an annomally this time of year.

I was out on the water this past sunday and the seas were pretty tranquil. The further south you go, the calmer the seas generally are. The water is a bit warm down here in the Sierpe area right now....hovering around 86.5/87. To get into the sails, marlin and bigger tuna you have to make a 25/30 mile run off-shore where the temps are better.

In-shore action is good though. We landed 5 roosters up to 80 lbs. on poppers along with a mixed bag of red snapper, AJs, blue trevally and football tuna on both the poppers and the jigs.
