Costa Rica Fly Fishing

Today we had Joe Fallucca who treated his buddies Rick and Trey Heiser to a day of Costa Rica Sportfishing. Joe, a longtime friend of the family, has taken a special interest in young Trey and over the years has taken him on many adventures. The goal today was to get him a pacific sailfish and if that worked out to get him one on the fly. We started out conventional and even though we got our first one pretty quick we decided to stay with conventional judging by their lack of aggressive feeding behavior. Our second one got stretched out pretty far and ended up tail wrapped so after an hour of pulling I told them to lock it down and take him or break him, he broke off but at least he will live to swim another day. Around 11 we released our third Sailfish and I judged that it was time to make the switch. We raised two Sailfish real quick but couldn't make it happen then the bite died. (as it sometimes will around mid-day). Then around 1 we raised a double header of sailfish and Trey put his fly rite on the money and we were on. He fought the sailfish like a pro and only after about a 20 minute battle Trey Heiser became the youngest angler to release a sailfish on the fly aboard the Lamanta. Trey is only NINE YEARS OLD!!!! This record will likely not be broken until my son marlin starts to fish. Maybe... Excellent job Trey!!
