    Circle Hook report

Circle Hook reportCapt. Eddie Bairez aboard the "Circle Hook" has filed this report:

Hello to all our fishing Friends!!

It’s Been the Great Fishing Days…We sort of lost Sailfish Road, But Found the Blue Marlin Juveniles’ Road!

Feb-14th: We have Mr. Kirk Smith, his son Jason, Scott Humble and John Abadie, fishing for the first time down in Guatemala. Jason,John and Scott had never caught a billfish before, and the first two hours of fishing Jason already caught a Sailfish and a 120lb. Blue marlin and they all had a Sailfish release to end up their first day with 8 Sails 10 Bites and Raised 10, + Blue Marlin!, Second day was slow, seeing a few sails in the morning, at noon time our spirits turned up, when John caught a 200lb. Blue Marlin on 30lb. line. We saw few more sails to end the day with 5 Sails Raised 4 Bites and 4 Released, Blue Marlin made our day! Third day didn`t change much. We had a Blue marlin come up on the left teaser but was never interested on anything. We end up with 7 out of 9 Raised 10, Jason and John Caught a Sailfish and Blue Marlin on their very first Trip!! Congratulations Guys!!

Feb-24th: We hosted Karen Lathan and Danny Williams to fish first time in Guatemala. Danny has fished in Tonga in the Pacific Islands and has caught a blue marlin there but never caught a sailfish. They were in the perfect place! Choppy seas in the morning and 6 mile run, the water looked really good so we decide to give it try. Both caught their first Sailfish in the first two hours. Before noon Danny caught a nice 200lb Blue Marlin and that give us a good reason to stick around in the area. Saw a few more sails at noon - wind had laid down- then a nice Blue crashed the teaser. Karen jumped in the chair and 20 min. later we where celebrating her 350lb. Blue Marlin Catch. We finished our day with 10 Sails Raised 8 out of 10 Bites + 2 Blue Marlin. What a way to start! Circle Hook had found the Marlin Road!! Second Day wind was blowing again and we ran to the same spot. Before 10am. after a single sail released we hooked a nice 200lb. Blue Marlin which Danny caught quickly. Very good reason to celebrate. We kept slow with the sails, right at noon a little 120lb Blue Marlin show up in the spread all crazy up moving and looking all our teasers and baits finnally decide to hit the bait and 10 min. later Karen was celebrating her second Blue in two days and our 4th one. We end up seeing 5 sails caught 4 + 4 Blue Marlin in two days was a blast!! Third day was very slow all morning we decide to run offshore. At noon our day was made again Karen was next in the chair when we hooked a 250lb. Blue - took 15 min. to land this gorgeous fish, our 5th Blue Marlin in 3 days!! Released a sailfish after and an estimated 400lb Blue hit the long bait and missed. We pitched the mackerel and she give us a lazy bite twice line never come tight, she went on her own, we release another sail to end this amazing trip with 14 Sailfish and 5 Blue Marlin Released. Thank you Danny and Karen! And Congratulations!!!

Feb-27th; We had the Honor to take retired Lt. Col. Robert Coulson, his son Lt. Col. Scott Coulson, retired Sergeant Joe James and aetired Air force Officer Thomes Accola for 3 days. Lt.Scott is in active duty and he survived an sniper shot in Iraq, He was down here to catch a first sailfish. They all have heard about the great 3 days with Danny and Karen so they where very excited to fish with us. We ran 20 miles west where the local fleet had found some good action the day before. We missed first two bites then a crazy Blue Marlin show up in the spread and give us a nice bite Lt. Scott jump up and quickly we call the release. We had few more bites after and at noon 300lb Blue show in the under the left teaser. It never came up on the surface and wasn`t interested in anything - she went away 30 sec. later. We end first day with 2 out of 5 Raised 10 + our 6th Blue Marlin in 4 days. Second day we went to try to get some sail on fly - we had two bites but they jump of after few jumps. We raised 10 total and caught 2 on light tackle. Third day much better with sails raised 21 we had 15 bites and released 10. We all had a great time!!

February gave us great Blue Marlin Action - in 12 days we raised 12 Blue Marlin, had 10 bites and released 9 Plus 109 Sailfish!!! We really expect a lot of action in March. Come and enjoy a great billfish action in Guatemala!!
