Fished out of homer a couple times before and all I can tell you is there aint nothing like fishing halibut out of homer. It for sure aint like flounder fishing at home. Get ready to be tired. This is anchored up fishing using 5# of lead, a half a salmon for bait, and catching them one after another. Dress in layers. The weather will change ten times a day, and be prepared that it is gonna be drizzly at some point in the day. Also be prepared to spend some money. Its pricy fishing and its really pricy to get the stuff sent home, and you do wanna send it home- it eats real, real good. Alaska is an incredible place and I am 100% sure you will love it there.

PS the hippies on the beach will blow your mind. Check them out.

I plan on shipping the meat home and have already made arrangements to have it stored.

I plan on dressing like I do for Striper fishing in Feb., Lots of layers with my Grudens on top.

Cameras ready and Wheaties for Breakfast... I'm up to the task...

What's this about HIPPIES on the beach?????

I figured I'd show you a few more pictures. The shot of the Homer spit was from my living room window. The crab boat was us getting ready for Brown King Crab season in Dutch harbor. The two Black fish are Black Cod or black Gold as we'd call them, Big money!!Yellow eye snapper and The F/V Kodiak Isle thats the boat we built after sinking the F/V Sunrunner. Im missing AK now!!! Enjoy... Capt Ken

For some reason, there is a herd of hippies that gather to live on the beach at homer spit. They migrate along the west coast wintering in southern california and spend the summers on the beach at homer. These "extreme livers" camp out in 30-40 degree weather on a beach that is made out of rocks instead of sand in tents where the nearest bathroom or kitchen is a 20 minute walk away. Don't be suprised when a girl with more hair on her legs than my granddad cleans your fish for you.

Hey Jake,

The Hippies are definitly all over the place and the cost to ship fish is pretty spendy. Had some friends come up and fish for 3 weeks, I was shipping fish down south for a month. Heres a couple more pics I dug up. Thats us iced up Nov,2003 and me Surfing in Kodiak in 2005. Good Times. Ken

Thumbs up

Wow... Looks like I'm gonna need a lot of CRABMEAT!!!

I should send a Hog Halibut home WHOLE and have a Hallibut Pickin!!!

Those are some awesome pics and I am looking forward to seeing it up close and personal.

Jake: I think, I'll leave the HIPPIES alone!!!

I plan on taking lots of pics and video footage and will share them when I return.

Right now we're scheduled for June, airfare and boat are booked.

I wish we were going to be there a little longer, but I plan on a return trip with the Mrs. in the not too distant future. I sure would like to catch some Codd, but I hear I'll be a little too early for them.

Thanks Again and I will be calling you very soon to get some info!!!

some very cool pictures, , I used to live in Kodiak and commercial fish, we used to go to Homer for ad-hoc bottom repairs, there on the tidal grid.

Do they still have that there? Man was that a dangerous place to get the boat tied up just right. ( before the 30+ ft tide went out)
Yep Salty Dog, is right next door, and a cool little place. I never did get the chance to Halibut ( fun ) fish there, - too busy working. I worked on a Kodiak Shrimp/Scallop boat called "Misty" it was back in 1981
