The Lodge welcomed Greg A. and guests yesterday for some awesome September fishing. While in a drought all summer, now the flood gates are opening and the skies are threatening. With storms bouncing early we elected to hang out and take full advantage of the comfort of the Lodge for a delayed departure. We got on the water about 8:00am and managed to pick up a slow Redfish bite before turning our attention to Trout. We had a lot of lightning in the pre-dawn hours which is seldom beneficial for concentrating fish. Trout seemed to be schooled up a little better than the Redfish.
Gator hunters, Teal hunters, and anglers are converging on the Lodge from all over the State and Nation. Alligator Season in Texas opened today and Teal opens on the 12th. Of course, some of our properties are becoming treacherous to navigate due to rains and flooding. We needed this drenching in the worst way however, and we’ve got the equipment to handle the conditions and we’ll take all Mother Nature will give us right now. This is setting the stage for some of the best fishing the Texas gulf coast has to offer. When it comes to ducks, they’re going to like the wet stuff in the freshwater ponds a whole lot better than parched and cracked salt flats.
