TEXAS CAST & BLAST OPENING WEEKEND
Bay Flats Lodge Report
by Captain Chris Martin
On Halloween we welcomed David E. and guests for two-days. Drifting with live bait was only fair to good mostly due to the lack of morning wind. Finally around noon, the wind picked up, and this is when the fishing got much better. Captain Jason found mostly trout over a mix of shell/mud. Captain Nathan stated, "We had several trout in the 20-inch class today, and most of our fish were solid with Ruth and son."
After a morning duck hunt on Saturday, Thomas M. and crew teamed up with Captain Harold & TJ to wade late in the afternoon. Best action was on TFM roach chartreuse tipped with 1/8-ounce heads. Fishing was very slow, but each angler was able to fool a handful of trout. Sunday evening we welcome Dr. David R. and guest in for a "Blast & Cast" on Monday. David E. and crew will be fishing along with returning customer Sonny V. and wife. On Monday, the weather is calling for mostly cloudy. Patchy fog early in the morning. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms late in the morning. Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the upper 80s inland...in the mid 80s coast. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 30 percent.
Duck Hunting
On Sunday we sure didn't see the flights of ducks we saw opening morning, however our party with Thomas M. averaged 4 birds per person. The majority of ducks were teal, pintail, and redheads.
