Lake Bistineau Fishing Forecast
January 2012

The bass are in the Pre Spawn stage mode. Which means they are gonna be in the eating mode. With the lake level at normal pool stage, it’s going to be a toss up on where to fish. These fish have new water & a lot of fallen Cypress trees to explore. So as the spawn comes into play the laydowns will come into play. But thats for the next two months. White / Chartreuse 3/8 oz. spinnerbaits, Texas Rigged black / red creature baits & Black-Brown-Amber 7/16 oz Southpaw Jig and matching craw will be a big bite producer.Concentrate on Cypress trees along the edge of the sloughs and main channel. If we hae several warm days ease up on the inside edge of the treelines along the sloughs and channel. Same baits, just a little shallower.

Caddo Lake

January 2012

January on Caddo means one thing, BIG BASS! There will be several patterns working in January. One of the best patterns is burning a ½ oz lipless crankbait or a Bandit footloose crankbait in Red Crawfish or Silver Shad over the old grass beds and Lily Pad fields. Flipping the many Cypress Trees on the main lake with a 7/16 oz black-blue Southpaw Jig tipped with a black blue Craw or a Texas Rigged black and red creature bait rigged with a ¼ weight will be a big bite producer. If the bass are suspended a weightless Texas rigged watermelon red or black neon Tiki Stik type bait will get there attention.

Remember to look for the grass and pad mixtures when fishing Caddo this time of the year.

If there is current In the bayous a white and black back or crawfish pattern100 series Bandit Crankbait fished around the mouths of the bayous will catch the quality bass.

January 2012

BASS~ Small 7/16 oz Southpaw Jigs in Black & Blue or Black & Red tipped with a Craw in matching colors will be a good bet. Fish the jig combination along the edges of the flats or deeper banks. If we have several days of warm weather or late in the day ease up on the flats and slow roll a white and chartreuse spinnerbait around the stumps and lay down logs. The 100 series Chartreuse-blue back and crawfish colored Bandit crankbaits fished in and around the stumps on the flats will produce well if the blade bite slows.

Crappie~Shiners and small crappie jigs tipped with shiners fished along the edge of the ridges in the oxbows should be a good bet on the Crappie.

Bream~No Report
