NOW IS THE TIME FOR JORDAN LAKE'S FALL AND EARLY WINTER BIG, COOSA RIVER SPOTTED BASS!

The cooler days of fall always trigger a fantastic topwater bite on Alabama's lower Coosa River Impoundment, Jordan Lake. As September comes to an end cooler nights quickly drop down into the fifties. Midday highs -- much to the relief of the still sun burned summertime angler -- soon, will not even make it into the mid-70's. Water Temperatures, as of September 19 are in the mid-70's, but they too will quickly drop into the upper 50's by the first week of October. Yes, the season of fall is quickly upon all of us weary, burnt-out, and yet still lingering, late-summertime anglers. Oh, but that's not all! Rain!

This entire week is predicted to show a 40 percent chance of rain each day, then partly cloudy days as next weekend arrives. Perfect conditions for Spookin' up some big, trophy-sized spotted bass!

Only a few weeks back, Jordan lake's water temps were near 90 degrees! In only a few weeks it has dropped 20 degrees! Coupled with cloudy, rainy conditions, bait fish schools seen very evident lake wide and busting bass everywhere, its time to consider a bass fishing trip to Alabama's premiere, spotted bass factory!

Not only making plans to fish this small impoundment near Wetumpka, Alabama now, but to go back (and you will!), all throughout the months of September, October, November and even, at times, right on up to Christmas day itself. You have a better chance at fooling a true, trophy-sized spotted bass (one exceeding 5 pounds, maybe even a six pounder), during these cooler days of fall and early winter, than all throughout the rest of the entire year, even spring!

So, why is this? One thing, there is much less fishing pressure seen during this time of the year. Deer hunting season is getting cranked up, kids are back in school, most bass tournaments or tournament trails are winding down and football season is here too! The other reason is, just plain old feeding fish, that always act foolish when attacking bait fish schools, as they fatten up for the upcoming winter months ahead.

Topwater lures, rattling lipless lures like Rattletraps and Red Eye Shads, spinnerbaits, swim baits, shallow-to-deep diving crank baits, both suspending and floating model jerk baits, jigging spoons or tail spinners (and a number of other lures fished on or near bottom), should always be rigged and ready for some schooling action this fall and winter season on Alabama's Jordan Lake. Or, you can always call on...
