Main Lake - 7/30/2010

UPPER MAIN LAKE:

Crappie fishing continues to be good ... not great, but good. The fish are on the edges of the river and old lake beds, and around deep cover. Bass are on the deeper drops. Catfishing is good on jugs and set lines.

LOWER MAIN LAKE:

Look on the deep flats between Rose's Bluff and Fannin Landing and south of Fannin Landing toward the dam for the schools of hybrid stripers feeding on top. Largemouth bass fishermen are doing better on the deep drops. Catfish are good up on the deep flats (12-15 feet).

Spillway - 7/30/2010

With the flow through the gates at minimum, the fishing is tough. Most of the catches reported are coming early, late and at night.

New Striped/hybrid bass Rule - Effective April 22, 2010

The new rule establishes a one over 24 inches length limit on Striped bass and Hybrid Striped bass. This rule change ONLY affects anglers fishing in the Pearl River from the Ross Barnett Reservoir dam downstream to the City of Jackson water intake. Therefore, the creel and length limit regulations on Striped bass and Hybrid Striped bass are six (6) fish per day, all must be over 15 inches in length and only one (1) can be over 24 inches in length.

Upper Lake and River - 7/30/2010

ABOVE HIGHWAY 43:

Bass fishermen looking for big fish are still concentrating their efforts up on the river. Deep cranking on the channel and frogs in pads are the best bet. Crappie fishing is slow, but the fish are on the edge of the channel. Catfishing is good.

Pelahatchie Bay - 7/30/2010

Not much activity seen or heard from on the Bay, except for good reports of jugging for catfish at night in the creek channel. A few bass fishermen are hitting the pads with frogs and the crappie anglers are sticking close to the creek channel.

Okatibbee Reservoir - 7/30/2010

The lake level has fallen to 340.5 ft. The water temperature is 91 degrees at the dam. Water is being released through the dam at 30 cfs. Crappie continue to hold on the deeper dropoffs in the creek channels. Best baits are jigs and minnows. Some crappie are also being caught on deep running crankbaits trolled through these areas. Bass fishing continues to be fair as fish hold on the deeper dropoffs and points during the day. Soft plastics and deep running crankbaits are the best choices for baits. Catfishing is fair on the flats. Best baits include liver and cut baits.

New Crappie Rule - Effective April 22, 2010

The 10-inch minimum length limit on crappie has been removed at Okatibbee Reservoir. The daily creel limit is 30 per day per angler.
