Fishing on Thursday began with GEC corporate entertainment as the main focus; they experienced 23-trout/2-reds wade fishing grass & sand near a protected shoreline with Captain Alan. A large beverage broker enjoyed entertaining their customers with 23-trout while wade fishing oyster shell in SAB with Captain Harold; best action was on the drop off of each shell pad. Mike B. and son’s fished from the boat with Captain Scott, “We landed a bunch of trout and kept 10 for dinner with a few solid reds, the action was fun and the boys stayed busy catching.” Captain TJ bounced around trying to find a steady bite, but came up short for his efforts while wade fishing CEC Company and guests. They did catch 25-trout the next day while working shell.
On Friday the lodge welcomed Miller Coors Group for a customer appreciation fishing excursion. It was to be a “Reel ‘Em & Deal “Em” evening with poker tournaments flowing throughout the lodge. Captain Harold put his group on 20-trout plus releasing a bunch of 14-15” fish. They worked a very small piece of shell. Captain Jason waded with his group to locate near 20 fish. Captain TJ also found a decent trout bite early, “Man, the action is early and around 12:00 pm the action shuts completely off.” Captain Alan said our day was a bit slower compared to yesterday, but he still managed to put the GEC Company on some solid trout.
Friday evening we welcomed a new customer in with 14 of their clients for a two-day event. On Saturday the wind slowed-down and fishing picked up for the majority of our 6-boats. Captain Harold kept busy chipping away at the trout to complete his boats limit of trout. Shell was the main target. Captain TJ put his party on 9-reds 20-trout. According to TJ, “The reds went skinny, and we went after them, it worked!” Captain Allen picked up limits of reds, and 10-trout. Captain Rick adjusted his strategy to find 11-trout and 5-reds. Most action was over mud & grass. Captain Jason worked shell and cashed in all his chips to find trout short in size but plenty of them. Captain Scott worked the shell to find scores of small trout, but did managed to bring in a respectable catch. On Sunday morning we’re doing it all over again with the same group…reports to come.
As of late, when fishing shell in SAB, if you’re catching a few trout over a shell pad, once the bite shuts down be prepared to move. For our team at least, we’re picking up 4-5 fish per stop. It’s not the way we like to fish, but this strategy is keeping us busy catching, instead of just casting.
In closing, we know it's hot outside and the last thing you're thinking about is duck hunting. With the kids out of school I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer vacation. Speaking of kids, have you ever thought about tossing your son's or daughters X-BOX into the bay and picking up a shell box instead? Now, is the time to introduce little Jack or Jill into the sport of duck hunting?
