Inshore:
Trout! Yes, trout! The past week we have received some pretty good reports of trout being caught in the lowcountry. Capt John Fuss, Capt Richard Stoughton, and Capt Mike Able all were able to find trout in the past week. Not only did they find some trout, but they found some decent numbers too. Live shrimp and DOA shrimp under a popping float were the baits of choice for the specks. "White wash" shell rakes in 4-6ft of water should be good target areas for trout right now. Capt Justin Hubbard from our Mt Pleasant store also reported some redfish starting to blow up on topwater plugs on the flats. Justin also included that once they quit hitting topwater, he was able to switch up to Gulp! baits and continue to wear them out for a good while longer. In addition to the reds on the flats, we are still hearing good reports on the redfish coming from docks and other sub-surface structures. Live minnows, shrimp, cut mullet, Gulps!, and ZMAN scented baits are all reliable baits to put in front of a red. Sheepshead continue to push back inshore from the reefs, with good numbers being found around rock piles, the jetties, and bridge pilings.
Offshore:
We finally had a couple of days for a handful of boats to sneak out to the stream the past week, and the boats that were able to get out reported back on some nice wahoo being caught, some scattered blackfin tuna, and even a Sailfish was caught already(congrats to Heather Leman for her first sailfish this past week). The wahoo reported back to us were being found just offshore of the ledge in 200-250ft of water, as well as the blackfins.
