Inshore

The water is cooling off and fall fishing is getting hotter. In the surf, you can expect to find flounder, speckled trout, spot, sea mullet, red drum and some blues. The sea mullet have been biting shrimp and sand fleas when you can find them. Try Mirrolures, Gulp, soft plastic grubs and live bait for the trout, drum and flounder. The jetty at Wrightsville Beach has produced some of the largest trout and drum. In the waterway and creeks, the trout have been mostly undersize but there are plenty of them. Fourteen inches is the minimum with a limit off ten fish per person. Flounder are still biting in the creeks and inlets.

Near Shore

Although we have had few reports lately, King Mackerel should be within 10-15 miles of the beach. Most years, they can still be caught at 23 Mile Rock up until Christmas. Grouper fishing is good from 20 miles on out.

Gulf Stream

The weather has been to rough for many reports from the stream. Last week blackfin tuna, amberjack and wahoo were reported from the Same Ole and Steeples areas.
