Sunday 4-24 - Blues and Spanish

Took off early Sunday morning with Kirk S. in hopes of finding a few fish before the wind gods started huffing and puffing again.

Shot out of the inlet and with the offshore breeze, the ocean wasn't too terrribly bad. Not good, but not to bad. Water temps were 60.0ºF and the sonar was lit up with baitfish. Ran out about 2 miles to the Liberty Ship and strarted casting jigs. Birds were working baitfish in the area so we felt pretty good about our chances of finding some fish.

It didn't take too long and we were hooked up. First fish of the day was a bluefish. Just what we were looking for. We managed to catch several Bluefish and even one Spanish Mackerel which was a real surprise. Spanish typically prefer much warmer water temps, but the bait was there and I guess it was hungry.

With continually improving weather, the fishing should improve as well. The water temps are warming up and the fish are getting hungry. Have heard of some good catches of redfish in the shallow water bays, bluefish are on the beach, bonito should be here any day (they are late) and with catching a Spanish Mackerel on Sunday (probably the first one caught at Wrightsville Beach for the season) you never know what you might catch. It's time to go fishing!!!
