Stand ‘N Down Charters out of Holden Beach North Carolina Fishing Report.

April 24th, 2009 Friday Stand ‘N Down Charters out of Holden Beach North Carolina Fishing Report.

We fished with friends Johnny Jones and Gene Norris at the Blackjack Hole where we had several Wahoo knock downs. The Mahi bite was good for we boated four total and three of the four were gaffers. We found one unlucky King Mackerel and quite a few Black Bass. All in all it was a good day spent on the Stream and the ride back to the hill was smooth.

April 25th, 2009 Saturday Stand ‘N Down Charters out of Holden Beach North Carolina Fishing Report.

It was a day with a small crew with partners Layne Flowe and Ronnie Ensminger aboard the Stand ‘N Down II. We got to the dock around 4:00 a.m. thinking we had a smooth ride out to the Stream because NOAA’s forecast is always right….Yeah right….Nearly three hours later we finally made it to The Steeples and begin our futile search for warm water…. Once our spread was out we picked up a 15lb False Albacore off the outrigger short line. After picking up a second False Albacore we moved inshore about two miles where we found some 70+ degree water. We barely got the long lines out before BAM! a gaffer Mahi hit a ballyhoo being pulled behind a blue/green Draggin Eye skirt. After that it was on with a steady Mahi bite for nearly two hours that resulted in a box full of Mahi. We did have a Wahoo knock down but it was the Hoo’s day and not ours so he swam on to be caught another day. Once the bite slowed, out came the Trevala jigging rods. You talk about the feeling that the ride is about to come off the tracks that best describes what its like to have a 30+ lb AJ on the business end of a Bluewater Candy Roscoe Jig as you try to get him from the ocean’s floor at 300 feet. We ended the day by jigging up some 12-15 inch black bass, and a couple Silver Snapper after stopping by one of our favorite 90 ft holes the ride in. It was a great day and great time had by all.

April 26th, 2009 Sunday Stand ‘N Down Charters out of Holden Beach North Carolina Fishing Report.

We had the honor of taking two soldiers fishing for a half-day bottom fishing trip on Sunday, one from the Army stationed at Fort Bragg and the other from the Air Force and stationed at Pope Air Force Base. We made our way to the 15 Mile Rock where they caught their limit on Black Bass. These were pretty hump back green heads and certainly made these fine young soldiers happy to catch. It was a great day and we look forward to serving the ones who protect our great country again.

April 27th, 2009 Monday Stand ‘N Down Charters out of Holden Beach North Carolina Fishing Report.

We fished the Stream on Monday and aboard were Todd Lockamy and his wife Gerri. Todd and Gerri were the runners-up in the Fraternal Order of Police raffle held in May of 2008 in Charlotte. The first place prize was 10k in cash and the second place prize was a full day charter with Stand ‘N Down Charters. We are sorry they didn’t win the 10k but we are very happy they took the second place prize for a great time was had. We started out trolling at the Blackjack Hole and the water so cold and green. So we picked up and head for the Steeples and found 75 degree and picked up four gaffer Mahi. The Mahi hit a Ballyhoo being pulled behind a pink/white Ilander. Two Wahoo managed to break off before being boated but the excitement was still there nevertheless. Seen a White Marlin around but would not take the bait! Then off to do some jigging. The Bluewater Candy Roscoe Jig was the source of excitement for the Lockamy’s for they were able to catch and release several AJs. Then to 90 feet of water to get some Black Sea Bass. End up with our limit of hump back green heads. Everyone had a great time and we look forward to providing another charter trip for the runner-up of the 2009 Fraternal Order of Police 10k Raffle.
