Specs and Puppys

Fished yesterday morning, a half day with a group out of Winston Salem, NC. Started off the morning fishing on the flats outside of North River. A good sign of redfish, most of the fish were 18-25 inches, did catch two fish in the 30" range as the tide got up a bit. Once the boats started riding by, (so we wouldn't be standing out, like holding a sign up and saying here they are boys), we eased off of the drum and went point pounding in search of a spec. Fished mostly around middle marsh and the back side of shackelford island. The first point, nothing..........second point, nothing.........third point, BINGO. Plenty of specs, mostly small, 11-14 inch stuff, however it seemed that after catching about 15 fish, we would catch a decent fish. 2-3lb. range. When it was all said and done, kept 5 of those larger fish, and released all the rest.

The drum we caught earlier in the day, threw mostly Berkley Gulps. The "smelt" style on a 1/8 ounce gig head. We did catch one on a top dog mirro lure and a few on Fin-s. The black back/silver belly with gold flash did well. The trout,.........mostly on the "favorite grubs and fin-s baits", we did catch two of the larger fish on Mirro lures though. The ol' red back!

A great morning all and all, finished up about 12:00, just in time to come home and work on that honey do list.. Good fishing to all. Supposed to finally go back offshore tomorrow....will have report. Thanks. Capt. Brian.

they are there too

Since I could not fish offshore today due to the weather, I have offered to help a few of my friends here in town, however, just stopped by the beach to take a look at the ocean, when I pulled up (Sportsmans pier), birds were picking right in the surf line, having my rod in the truck, I walked out to the waters edge, in three casts caught a 15 inch drum, a 25 inch drum and a flounder, all on a mirro lure. Soooooooooooo passing the info along for anyone who is fishing the beach today, I have to work, but I believe you could spank them this morning. (Catch 2000 Mirro lure, blue back, silver sides, green bottom.) YOU GOT THAT JESSE? capt. brian.
