Shore-fishing Reds?

I'd rather not continue my all you can skunk buffet if I'm barking up the wrong tree. I keep reading the reds are biting, but I'm not even getting a tap on shrimp, various jigs, and spinners. I've tried 4 locations and various tides up and down the W. side of Kiawah Island (below Charleston). Near the mouth of the river, midway, and pretty far upstream. Is it a waste of time trying to catch reds without a boat or a kayak?

First, welcome to SFC...

I can't speak for down there but here at times I will sit in the top of the dunes and glass the surf looking for them, If I don't see them, I move down the beach.

Keep looking and you will find them, Sunny mid day pre front is your better bet for them wanting to eat.
