Inshore:
Whoever ordered the sub-arctic weather, I would like to press charges! Temperatures well below the norm have sent shock waves through the inshore estuaries. However, 2 species of gamefish continue to provide great action in these cold waters. Sheepshead are still absolutely on fire using fiddlers and clams around rock piles, jetties, bridge pilings, as well as old docks. Best reports have been coming from these types of structures located in 8-15ft of water. With water temps dipping into the 40's right now, some of the charter guides have reported the reds schooling up extremely tight right now. Meaning you could find as many as 300fish in a school right now. Shallow flats around low water (particularly on sunny days) will provide reds a place to warm up as the sun beats down on the dark mud flat. Gulp jerkshads, scented ZMAN baits, live minnows, and even cut baits will all do you well in these type scenarios.
Offshore:
Unfortunately 10 days of gale force winds does not leave me much to report on the offshore side. I can however state from experience that this is prime time to slip out to 50-60ft of water and pick up some large black sea bass using squid and cigar minnows. Hope to provide a much better offshore report next week if we can get some better weather!
