Cold weather dominates the fishing report but it doesn’t stop the catches. Anglers are still taking nice redfish in the backwater shallow creeks and that action has not slowed down. I have heard just a few reports of scattered trout running the tides near the bridges (and those were undersized) so I can’t say the trout bite is on…but the redfish are really making up for it.



Redfish are in very shallow water in the back creeks. They go in there as the sun warms the shallows a little bit and they search for crabs and mud minnows to eat. Fishermen are sneaking up on them at low tide. The fishing guides use push poles to put their boats into position because the smack of an anchor or the noise of a trolling motor will scatter the redfish.



Once in casting position they are using Blue Water Candy jig heads or other jigs and Berkley Gulp Shrimp or Crabs. They are working the lures slowly and the redfish are still active and biting.

Besides the redfish and the few reports of small trout the only other bite going on is the black drum. They are in the usual places near hard structure and being caught on cut shrimp or clam meat fished right against the pilings.
