Congrats to WASTE KNOT II for beating out my team for first place on the FIRST CRACK by half a pound in both the Top Angler division (Largest Yellowfin) and Top Boat Division (3 Largest cumulative over 2 days). It was definitely "Karma" since we won Top Angler in 2007 by half a pound with a 106.5 lb Bigeye.
We had 3 teams from Ohio in the Tournament this year on the FIRST CRACK, BI-OP-SEA and QUALIFIER.
Although we came in second by a half pound, the real story is how close BI-OP-SEA came. They had a great day on the last day of the tournament and caught some nice yellowfin and a 350 lb Blue Marlin to come in third. The tough part was that their largest Tuna got it's tail taken off by a 200 lb Mako Shark. That fish was automatically disqualified, of course. However, what was left of it weighed 48.5 lbs in the fish cleaning station. Clearly, if that Tuna would have come in unscathed, they would have won the Tournament. The Top 3 Tuna in the Tournament were 50.5, 50, and 48.5 lbs.
The most ironic part of this hard luck story, is that Todd, the guy whose Tuna got munched by the shark, had caught a Mako the day before. Sounds like a great movie title, "REVENGE OF THE MAKO."
Anyway, hope to see alot more boats and anglers in this Tournament next year. For those of you who don't have a boat, some of the best crews in the country are at your disposal at Pirates Cove Marina www.fishpiratescove.com and the Oregon Inlet Fishing Center www.oregon-inlet.com The key is to line your crew up while they still have openings. Alot of the good ones are filled up on the weekends by the time winter rolls around.

and guess who had the 106# Big eye in 2007...yes, that would be my boat...lol...Good job again
Thanks, STILL THINKIN. In 2007, we caught that Bigeye in the last hour of the tournament. If caught earlier, it may not have overcome yours. Here it is below.
By the way, love that evil smile on the front of your boat.
Thanks man..I really enjoy the Pirates Cove Tuna Tournament...it's pretty laid back, the fishing is normally really good this time of year down there...you get to hang out at the new Tiki Bar in PC...just a great time....
Congrats again, you guys are on fire with this tournament..see you next year...
Oh yea, our close call this year was 1 pound on top Mahi...Point Runner had a 28.5 and we had a 27.5....man...Bob
We agree. The new Tiki Bar is great. I've done alot of fishing all over the USA, Mexico, and Central America. We even have a Tournament record yellowfin down in Cabo. However, hands down, Barry and Eddie on the FIRST CRACK are the best overall crew we have fished with. Going down to fish the PC Billfish Tournament with them for the first time this August. Can't wait!!
Fantastic.....actually on Saturday I saw you guys heading out to the deep..figured you were going after a Blue one...so we kinda slowly trolled that way through the break as it was right around noon, bite had slowed from earlier and were looking for a bigger Mahi or possible a Wahoo....about 1145 or so a 300 Pound Blue Marlin hit my left short, Black and Blue sea witch with Medium Bally hoo...Penn 50 Wide...that took up about an hour of our day but my mate got his first Blue Marlin release...great fight...but congrats and good luck at the PC Billfish tournament..might see you down there...Here's a shot of the Blue one and evil grin..
Nice!! Here's some of shots of our 318 lb Tournament record Yellowfin down in Cabo. Caught it on a Penn 50 on a short rod. Therefore, we could not use the chair and had to trade off with sailfish belts. Took 4 hours and 20 minutes to get in and we got in the Harbor about 15 minutes before being disqualified. Thanks. Pretty special having my 72 year old Dad along on all these trips. Although not a Tournament, we had another special moment when he, my son and I were together on our annual Canada Trip and my son landed the Jr World Record Walleye. His picture was then put in the Dec 07/Jan 08 issue of FIELD & STREAM.
