Open" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 09/30/11

I talked with a couple of trusted local anglers about the U.S. Open. They told me a few kings were caught at the 90's and Youpon Reef. The size and quantity was nothing to write home about. But as Rube said, the size of the winning fish isn't important because it's bigger than the 2nd place fish.

Good luck to the fishing teams on Saturday. Stay safe.

Awesome day on the water today.Rob,Pam and grandson Owen from Ohio in the a.m and Ray and Holden from Cary in the p.m. The fish bit all day with the exception of the extreme high tide. As soon as the water started moving again so did the bite. We found some nice flounder in Tubbs this morning and Shallotte River this afternoon. The redfish still are in love with the BIG live shrimp when you can find them.

"Inshore Report" | Tiberias - 22' | 09/29/11

Steve and Jim finally got on the water with me today. We tried to battle the rain on Tuesday, but the electricity was just too much. We rescheduled for today. The current was ripping. wind blowing, and water stirred up from both forces. Again, the conditions pushed us to alternative plans. I really wanted to get out on the beach and nearshore wrecks to find flounder and the big reds. The ocean wasn't going to allow that today. We ended up hitting the docks landing 12 reds, 3 grouper, and monster toadfish! The bite seems to have slowed a bit with the water temperatures rising near 80 degrees again. An approaching cold front should change these conditions and get the fish biting again early next week. Thanks for fishing with us! See ya on the water!

"US OPen king update" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 09/29/11

Nothing good to report from our charter boats today. Fished at Yaupon and it was rough. No action. SW wind tomorrow will be difficult. Best bets will be to get out to 60 feet and anchor/chum/kite fish or fish along beach on the north side of Frying Pan Shoals where you get land protection from a west/southwest wind. Other option will be down toward Myrtle around Apache Pier as also some land protection there. Most likely the game will be about Saturday fishing as once the front comes thru wind will be hard out of the north, and conditions along our Brunswick County beaches will be flat close to the land. Hopefully the SW wind won't stir the beach water up too bad. If history means anything, they should bite Saturday on the north wind from river channel to Yaupon/Ocean Crest. Good luck to everyone fishing. Plenty of pogies along the beach.
