"BURRRR!!!!!" | Get Busy | 10/02/11

What happened Friday night? The rain rolled thru around 6:00 p.m. and Saturday morning the cold air was on us.`Un sure of what that cold front was going to do the fishing we headed out. I found some flounder up the Shallotte River friday so I thought lets see if they are still there. They where 3 quick fish. Then start hitting the docks and see what happens.

"US Open Report" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 10/01/11

It felt wierd being on land during the US Open and getting reports from friends on the water. Team OIFC is normally right in the middle of the action, but this year "stuff" came up and we couldn't make it. However, apparently the fish don't need us on the water to bite, as I am excited to report some pretty good beach fishing activity. Was it hot? No. But it was good enough that most people fishing the beach caught fish and good enough to be declared a viable fishery. You also have to remember the tournament was held on Friday and Saturday, the day before and after the cold front. These were not very good conditions and as such, I beleive once the weather and fish settle into the big Fall weather change, the bite will be on big time. A 43 pounder won. It was caught by James Joine and crew aboard the Deep End. The fish was caught near the Lockwood's Folly sea buoy around 2:30pm on Saturday. The second place fish was caught by the 2010 Jolly Mon winner, Charles Reese; a 38 pounder that came from the Yaupon Reef area. 3rd came from the River channel and a couple of the other top 10 fish came from Shallotte inlet. There were fish caught up and down the beach as no particular area seemed to produce more fish than another. This coming weekend is the Rumble in the Jungle tournament out of Little River- www.littleriverfishingclub.com for info - It looks like the weather and fish may be coming together for a collission course in this event, it could be epic? I woudl recommend making plans to participate if for nothing more than to get in on the action. Team OIFC is planning to rejoin the circuit and get back to work for this event. See you on the water.

"U. S. Open Update" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 10/01/11

I've received unconfirmed reports of a 43 (?) pound king being brought to the scales. A 38 pounder caught a Youpon was leading. I was told that kings were caught at the mouths of Shallotte Inlet, Tubbs and Hog.

Again, not confirmed.

"Open" | OIFC World Cat / Carolina Cat | 09/30/11

I talked with a couple of trusted local anglers about the U.S. Open. They told me a few kings were caught at the 90's and Youpon Reef. The size and quantity was nothing to write home about. But as Rube said, the size of the winning fish isn't important because it's bigger than the 2nd place fish.

Good luck to the fishing teams on Saturday. Stay safe.
