Made a trip offshore yesterday, light and variable winds had us hoping for a nice ride out. Prior to getting started we had a eletrical problem that knocked all the eletronics out. New boat and we werent about to let that slow for the inaugeral trip.
Took a handheld and headed to Winyah Scarp area. Pull up around the McMarlyn Ledge and put the baits out. Immediately had a cutoff on the Blu/white Islander in the Prop Wash. Wahoo cut the wire like butter! Kept pullin and a few seconds later a SLOB showed on the flat behind the red/blk sea star.
This was a big fish and as he turned to run one of the boys picked up the rod and rammed the drag up accidentally. Came unbuttoned and upon retrievin the bait we realized the Hoo had completely straitened the hook. That was afirst for me. Never seen a fish straighten a hook that large.
Trolled a few more hours and managed one other cutoff on the bird pullin a green machine on the WB.
Oh well, nice ride home anyway at 50 mph on a slick ocean. Maybe we'll get um next time.![]()
