Personal Report:
Fished yesterday inshore for the first time in many months, and dedicated myself to try and find the trout the have been reported as being few and far between here lately. Unfortunately it appears that our extremely cold winter may have had a substantial impact on our trout stocks. I bounced 7 of my favorite trout areas, and only found 1 nice female trout at 21". On the plus side, we found Reds at numerous of the spots we stopped at with really good numbers of slot fish and a couple well over slot sized reds. Also pulled the hook right beside the boat on one of the biggest flounder I have seen here locally. Had a blast catching up and fishing with a great friend, Royce Breland, and will try again for the trout in another week or two to see if they show back up in any kind of numbers. Most of the reds were caught on small live menhaden we caught in the harbor.
Inshore:
As already mentioned in my personal report, trout are being found but in low numbers right now. The trout that are being caught are taking live shrimp under popping floats, as well as small menhaden or live finger mullet. Reds are still scattering out all around the inshore waters, and can be found along rock piles, creek mouths, shallow flats, and under docks. Mud minnows, shrimp, cut mullet, ZMAN baits, and Gulps are all very productive right now for the reds. Flounder are showing up in solid numbers now, especially around our inlets and rock piles in 4-12ft of water readily eating live finger mullet, mud minnows, live menhaden, and Jerkshads worked along the bottom.
Offshore:
Yup, it's time. There is no doubt now that when the weather allows, it is worth making the run. Good reports of blackfin tuna and wahoo have come in from the georgetown hole area the past week, with some fantastic reports of wahoo. Capt Bobby on the Daymaker produced 8 wahoo and numerous blackfin in trip recently, with many being some quality fish. The better dolphin reports were being found out in the deep from 1200 to 1900 ft of water, with most of the fish being slingers.
