Offshore April 29th

Went offshore Friday to try and beat the bad weather coming in for the weekend. Went just south of the Big Rock and fished north to the Big Rock. Must have been 30 boats fishing the Rock. Water temps were not the best 69-70 degrees. Last week there was a 74 degree eddy offshore but obviously it had pulled further out. Action was slow for everyone. Heard of a few tuna being caught and a lot of kings. Most folks were trying to get away from the kings because they were biting off the tuna rigs. We hooked up a big tuna, got him to the boat and almost had him gaffed when he took off under the boat and broke our line. A little later we had a 3 hook up and got two to the boat-20+. We caught two more the rest of the day with one tuna in the 40+ range. Later in the day when the tuna bite quit, we fished for some kings and caught a few to end the day. Ended up being a beautiful day on the water. I have yet to fish a day that we had both decent winds and temps. May has to be better. No fishing this weekend-Mother's Day weekend. Make sure you spend some time with your mother because at my age and her's, there want be too many more.

One happy youngster
