It's nice to see a lot of activity around the OIFC. When I got here today there were people pulling away from the docks on the rental jet skis, some folks were out on the kayaks, Captain Barrett was getting the Parasail boat ready for the long weekend, Captain Brant and Captain Roger were headed out on the Cat Boats for charters. Ahhh springtime at last.

As for the off shore anglers, keep a check on our weather reports as they seem to be changing hourly. However it may be worth trying to stick your nose out of the inlet as the bite is definitely picking up. This week, Team Frick-Foster weighed in a 88# Wahoo going 5-for-9 at the Black Jack. Dr. Kendal Suh brought a 70# Wahoo to the OIFC dock while other boats reported several nice catches of Wahoo, Dolphin, Blackfin Tuna and Amberjack, one of which reportedly weighed @ 60#'s. The Kings are biting as well as Sea Bass are being jigged.

A common thread of the fishing reports indicates the Black Jack being the hot spot. The fish are hitting on our favorite, the Black Bart,as well as ballyhoo being pulled behind a black and purple skirt.

In shore there have been reports, as late as today of Flounder being caught. A family came in the OIFC today saying that their child had caught a 15 inch flounder off a dock in the concrete canals of OIB. Captain Kyle reported a Carolina Slam on a charter earlier this week. I've seen Red Drum which were caught behind Sunset Beach and near the Jetties. We've seen Black Drum being landed around the Sunset Beach Bridge. Last, but not least, some Pompano have been landed near shore around Oak Island.

Captains Brant and Barrett fished the Ft. Pierce, Fla. area this past week and brought us home some nice, ready for the grill Yellowfin Tuna. Brant said Florida has been experiencing the same problem with their Yellowfin fishery as we are having. He received advice to fish the east side of the Gulf Stream, which resulted in them loading up with 70# class Yellowfin. Brant said he's going to check out the eastern side of our Gulf Stream as soon as possible.

Capt. Robbie Dial sent me a short update on some inshore fishing he'd done the other day. They caught some Black Drum, the Red in the picture and over all what Robbie called a "local slam". I've also instructed Robbie to either catch bigger fish or hold them closer to the camera!

All said, it's getting ready to go down at Ocean Isle Beach, NC.
