Ocean Isle Fishing Center report 11-29
Fish Report
The Wahoo bite has been good, but not yet red hot along the break from 150-300 feet of water. Blackfin, Mahi and Sailfish have mixing in to make the days more exciting. A bit closer inshore near the Frying Pan Tower the King Mackerel bite has been insanely good. Kings are schooling as they are supposed to and have been biting live or dead bait at a fevered pitch. The good news is that the Kings are also in the vicinity of good bottom fishing for Snapper and Grouper, so have some fun with the Kings then add some color and flavor with some good bottom fish. Inshore of the Kings there is not much to do since the Sea Bass are shut down. However, the King Mackerel fishermen are swearing up and down that they have seen Bluefin Tuna in the vicinity of the Knuckle buoy. There are reportedly large masses of Pogys offshore in this area as well which would add to the credibility of the reports. Last year's Bluefin season was terrible. Maybe this year will be different, stay tuned. Inshore, the Speckled Trout fishing has been off the hook good. The old timers say its the most Trout they've ever seen. The only strange thing is that the Trout are mostly all in the 12-14 inch range, with very few over the 3 pound mark. Regardless, enough keepers are mixing in to make for plenty of good eating and the future of the fishery looks very bright. The hot lures for Specks has been either a glow, chartreuse combination or green, green combination with either a 1/8 or 1/4 oz. jig head. Hotspots have been the Shallotte river and Bonaparte Creek.
