OBX fishing in August

Hey all, My family and I are heading to the outer banks august 22nd for a week. I'd like to get my father out fishing a couple of times. I am really looking for info on the are as I have never been. We are staying in waves and I wasn't sure which inlet was closest. I'd like to do some inshore fishing and possibly an offshore trip as well depending on how many other people vacationing with us are willing to go.

Does anyone know which inlet is closer? Any reccomendations on charter boats in the area? I have checked the websites of the sponsors of this site and would prefer to give them my business-just not sure which way to go!
Also is there any action to be had from the surf? I'll be bringing some surf gear to pass the time and see what I can catch.

I appreciate any info anyone can pass along.
Thanks,
Chad

I'm surprised you haven't gotten more responses to this. I'm not an expert on this area as I go out of MHC and Beaufort Inlet, but I believe you will be closest to Oregon Inlet. To your south, but a little farther would be Hatteras. Both have huge charter fleets. See www.oregon-inlet.com or www.fishpiratescove.com for info out of Oregon Inlet and www.hatterasharbor.com for Hatteras. If you post your same question on www.ncwaterman.com you will probably get lots of specific recommendations. Have fun.

Chad,

Try Capt. Troy on the "Marauder" he's a member here and fishes out of Oregon Inlet. Another one would be Capt Jay on the "Bite Me" out of Hatteras, a member aswell. If they can't accomadate you , I'm sure they can point you in the right direction. Should be some really good inshore and offshore fishing during that time. Good Luck, Frank

Oregon inlet is closer to Waves then Hatteras inlet.

Are you taking a boat? If so I can give you some ideas were to start looking for inshore fish.

As far as offshore you never can tell what inlet will be better untill the time. You can look at Teaches Lair report for Hatteras. Look at Oregon Inlet fishing center and Pirates Cove fishing reports for O.I. That will give you an idea of what there catching offshore.

Good Luck,
Fishduck

Seapower, Thanks. I'll check those guys out! I've heard good thing about both of those boats.

Fishduck, We are not bringing the boat this time. just looking to catch a ride on somebody elses boat! Less work while on vacation!!!!! I've checked those sites and looked at alot of different boats.

Does ayone have any info/tips on what is being caught from the beach? I am bringing some surf gear so I have something to do on those "beach days". Are there designated surf fishing areas or is it pretty much just where tyhe people are not swimming!
