For those that don't know, Defenders of Wildlife and Audobon have filed suit in federal court seeking an injunction to ban off-road vehicle access at Cape Hatteras and Ocracoke. The "Point", Oregon Inlet, Hatteras Inlet, and Ocracoke Inlet will be CLOSED to access if the judge rules in their favor...

Please go to http://www.savehatteras.com to make a "plea" to keep the beaches open.

What the environmentalist are asking for is a ruling that the NPS is in violation of various federal acts for not having an ORV plan, closure of the beaches could result.

I hope this judge has some sense, but probably not.

Call you senator or congressman, that is the only way to get anything done at this point.

Who knows, maybe it got the word out to a few more people...I was on the beach at Ocracoke all day Saturday and of the 22 people I spoke to, NOT ONE had any idea the very spot they were standing could be closed in two weeks. I gave them all the printout version of www.savehatteras.com and asked them to get involved.

Most people won't find out until they get to the ramp I'm afraid...

The latest is the judge granted a 7 day continuance for both parties to come to agreement.

Was the meeting about CALO? They're getting ready to have the same clusterf#@k that Hatteras is going through.

Supposedly, an agreement in principle has been reached, again, and goes to the judge Wednesday I think.

We'll give more to keep from losing all from what I've heard. Sucks when you are holding a knife in a gunfight- they've already got a judge in their corner, why would they negotiate...?

This is awful, the Outer Banks is my favorite place on this Earth and unfettered beach access is one of the ways people get to truly appreciate what a special place it is. I wish I could do more besides just send my plea (which I and all the members of my family have done as well as many of my friends), I'm really pulling for you guys down there.

ncfish yes the meeting was about CALCO,and yes I think the same trouble is coming their way..... SUCKS...................
