Central District

For the week April 19-25:

Ocean: Anglers offshore bottom fishing caught white grunts, triggerfish, vermillion snapper, and assorted porgy and grouper. Of all species, black sea bass were biting the best. A few yellowfin tuna were reeled in. Slot-limit red drum were caught outside the inlets, and a few bigger drum were taken off of Cape Lookout. Smaller-sized sea mullet were caught in various locales. Amberjack and false albacore were the best catches for those trolling offshore.

Inlets/Sounds/Bays: In the Tar-Pamlico river area, spotted seatrout and flounder were caught. On the Neuse and Pamlico rivers, catches of striped bass continued to be good. Upstream, hickory and American shad continued to bite. Small bluefish were caught in abundance.

Piers/Shore: Fishing for sea mullet during high tide in the past week yielded good catches, although the fish were small in size. Anglers fishing on piers and along the shore hauled in a good catch of primarily small bluefish, as well as small croaker, black drum and hogfish. At the end of the incoming tide, anglers caught a few spot. Fishermen also landed spiny and smooth dogfish in good numbers.
