"Release" with Captain Rom Whitaker has been fishing out of Oregon Inlet for the last week and doing really good. Yesterday day they had a limit of Yellowfin Tuna some Blackfin Tuna and released 6 Sailfish.



On Tuesday Captain Jay Kavanagh while running the "Swordfish" boat fishing out of Oregon Inlet caught a limit of Dolphin and released 2 White Marlin. Citations go to Paul Hunt of Sutherland, VA and Frankie Howerton Jr. of Warfield, VA

Right now it looks like Maxwell and Bert are off until Sunday...They changed the oil yesterday and Bert cleaned out the entire tackle station so I think its honey dos and what not for the next few. If anyopne has suggestions on what I can do with Billy, let me know. Hehehe. Tight Lines!

In the meat again, Baby!! I love it!!!! A near limit od dolphin today for Steven and the crew and bert says they averaged about 5 pounds each which means there were some fine bailers and maybe some gaffers mixed in. Yellowfin are getting a little bigger just in time for this cold front...anywhere from BLTs to 45 pounders today and 18 of those in the box..one lone blackfin rounded out that catch! The fish cleaners at Pirate's Cove are really getting a work out and Maxwell is feeling the pinch...we are ready to go home to the Fishing Center and work is progressing nicely down there too. It was a really good feeling to get back out on the ocean after the storm. The ocean was pretty nice and the fish cooperated. Tim Overstreet and his family were able to relocate and fish with me out of Pirates Cove in Manteo. The blackfin tuna were hungry and we caught a few nice dolphin to go with them. Tim caught his first billfish a nice sail. A good time was had by all.

09-15-2011: Capt. Joe's now has a new page on the web-site. "Capt's comments and Events". .Offshore wahoo fishing is still very hot. There have been plenty of wahoo from the Big Rock south to the Swansboro Hole area. There are dolphin and some sailfish mixed in these same areas. King mackerel as well as a good wahoo bite has been going on around the Atlas Tanker on the eastside of the Cape Lookout shoals. Around the beaches the Spanish mackerel fishing has been fair along with bluefish. Back in the marshes there has still been a few red drum and the flounder bite is still good around the artificial reefs just off the beach.

Picking Away At Them

Where else on the east coast can you go fishing within a days run and catch White Marlin, Sailfish, Yellow and Black Fin Tuna as well as Dolphin? The list is short and the OBX is at the top. Arch and company caught 4 White Marlin and a few dolphin today which was about average for the fleet. Further to the south some sailfish showed up, mixed in with the table fare. Know let’s hope this cold front keeps pushing itself and Maria way offshore.
