Offshore boats all caught yellowfin tuna. Some gaffer dolphin were also caught. This area is fortunate to have good yellowfin tuna fishing within a reasonable distance. Some gaffer dolphin were also caught. They are sure to increase in numbers as the season progresses. deep drop bottom fishing produced a good catch of tilefish and sea bass. Inshore there were lots of tailor bluefish caught particularly in the morning.

Ocean Isle Fishing Center Fishing Report 5-12-10

    "Weekend Fishing Report-Reel McCoy" | OIFC 1- 36' | 05/11/10

    North carolina Fishing reports 5-11-1.jpg

Here is a weekend fishin report...

Daniel Simmons(OIB Concrete), Kennan Hill, Steve Austin and Brian Robbins fished on the Reel McCoy over the weekend. Pictured is Steve Austin with a big gag grouper.

Kennan caught a 30.7 lb blackfin first thing in 300 feet of water near the blackjack. The guys worked their way in to a weedline in 160 feet and put 6 nice gaffer dolphin and 4 slinger dolphin in the boat, with the biggest being a 26lb'er. With the dolphin still biting on the weedline, the crew ran out to a likely wahoo spot but couldn't connect with a wahoo. The hi-light of the day was Steve Austin's 37 pound gag grouper brought to the surface in 200 feet of water. What a fish!

On Friday Daniel and Bryan Freeman ran back out further to the west and got 2 nice wahoos and scared another real bad with the gaff. Also caught were 11 really nice dolphin, all gaffers, with half of them over 20 pounds.

Two great days of off-shore fishin at Ocean Isle Beach!

    "Inshore Report" | Speckulator - 22' | 05/11/10

I am pleased to report that things are finally happening on the inshore grounds. The past few days has produced some excellent fishing for all the target inshore species. The big news has been the hot flounder fishing that has occurred. The end of last week was particularly good before a couple of blow days that stirred the water a little. I know of several people, including myself thankfully, who had double digit catches of flounder. There of course have been a lot of throwbacks, but there have been some good ones mixed in as well. I had a 4lber on Sat. and I have hear rumors of fish up to 8Lbs. being caught in the area. The trout bite has also finally improved, with a pretty good trout bite occurring the past few days as well. The fish have been averaging 2-3lbs, but I'm sure we'll see a really big one any day now. Finally, the redfishing has remained good, as it has been for most of the year, there are plenty of reds of all sizes around, in just about all of the usual redfish spots. So there you have it, winter is finally over, it is time to go fsihing!

    "Jolly Mon Advertising Opportunity" | OIFC 1- 36' | 05/11/10

I am putting the Jolly Mon tournament program together and invite you to join. I have lots of options to get involved. I am offering a special package for fishermen who fish the event and who would derive benefit from exposure to the tournament's participants. The deadline is the end of the week, but if you are interested, there is still time- EMAIL ME for information.

Yesterday I took a group offshore for a Gulf Stream class. The class decided to try their hand in the Shoot Out, so they entered. We chose to high speed troll most of the day and caugth Mahi and Blackfin Tuna. The Blackfin bite was good at the Steeples. We really worked hard for a big Wahoo and had 1 bite, but we could not pull off the slam to make for a strong Shoot Out entry. So, the tournament is wide open. I hear folks complaining about the weather, but the forecast I see shows 10-15kt winds Thurs thru Sat. So let's go fishing. Entry into the Shoot Out is open thru Friday, so join. CLICK HERE to enter-

    Pointrunner Charters Fishing Report 5-12-10

5-11-10 we got our turn today

    North carolina Fishing reports 5-11-1.jpg

One of the other captains compared the recent offshore fishing to spinning a roulette wheel. The lucky boats get whacked by the tunas. Yesterday we were among the unlucky boats...never had a tuna bite. Although we did send our party up the road with a couple of dolphin and their limit of blueline tiles. Today was our lucky day! Over 500 pounds of tuna were captured by Scott Doss, Steve Spencer, Chris Barnes, and Scott Betson. Thanks guys, hope to see you again soon.
    Thanks for checking in.

Tuna Fever Sportfishing Fishing Report 5-12-10

    5/10/2010
Sometimes you are the hero and today was one of those days (I imagine Billy put his socks on in the correct order this morning!).

The boys started out on the 530 and fished down to the 515. There they got hit by 7 yellowfin and put 5 in the box. Fishing right around the same place for the next hour and a half produced not much of anything....so they headed north to the 799/700. There they got hit by 6 and boxed 4! Yeah. After that - nada.

Billy says the water everywhere was between 69 and 70.3 degrees with a funky tint and not a sign of life. His yellowfin were full of elax (summer squid...white ones) but the boys didn't see any bait of birds. Just wandering tuna which means the Billies could be zeros tomorrow! Happy birthday to Wayne and many thanks to his great girlfriend, Wendy for booking the surprize with us...special thanks go as well to Josh who works with Anthony at Princess Anne Distributors...our most favorite tackle shop in Va Beach, for reccommending us! Tight Lines!
Oh, total screw up on my part (are you surprized?) I said a couple weeks ago that we were booked up for June and we do have the 1st and 2nd available. Billy would love me a lot of I got those days filled and they are far enough away from the full moon to be very productive - so give us a call!

    5/9/2010
    Blowing again today! Boooo.

    5/8/2010
No fishing today - it is blowing a gale!! Tight Lines!

    5/7/2010
If I remember correctly (you know Maxwell and I are married and if you are married and afraid to admit that sometimes when your spouse is speaking all you hear is blah, blah, blah then you are probably hearing blah, blah, blah way to much and you need to pay more attention!) I believe the Tuna fever and David Bertauski's crew headed down to the wrecks early and tuned up the tile fish. Now I know this part is true because there is fresh tile in my refridgerator and I do remember that the boys caught a nice snowy grouper - yum yum! Heres where it gets a little fuzzy...I know afterwards they headed out in search of the illusive yellowfin and then...blank. I got nothing. As hard as I try to remember what Billy said over dinner I can't. So, I will ask him again (of course without him knowing that I didn't listen the first time) and see what I can do for posting it tomorrow. Don't forget Mother's Day on Sunday!!! Tight Lines!

    5/6/2010
No fog this morning and no fish today. I say the Billies got the skunk out of the box with one bailer dolphin but Maxwell says it might has well have been a whole family of skunks set up shop in there! Dale and his boys had a great day anyway and the wonderful attitude is much appreciated. I think the fleet will be headed for the wrecks early tomorrow and then off in search of those yellowfin! Tight Lines!

    5/5/2010
So I got a call from Maxwell this morning about 9:30. He and Dickerson and Greg Wilkinson and his whole crew and every other captain, mate and party at the Fishing Center had been waiting around since 5 this morning for the fog to lift. Which it never did. Greg and his boys threw in the towel around 9 and I hope they went out for a nice breakfast and the fog bank lifter off the Outer Banks but you could see it until sundown settled right over the ocean off the beach. Funky and cool but disappointing for the fishermen! Tight Lines!

    5/2/2010
Any fisherman worth his salt believes in luck and thats just what the Tuna fever got today. Lucky! Fishing was slow all over - the bluefin have moved out and the water pushed out and there was not much ado about nothing! In the end the Billies managed to pull out 6 yellowfin in the 30 to 40 pound range for Dean Dancel (spelling??) and his crew...at least there was no skunk in the box! Tight Lines!

    Trophy Hunter Fishing Report 5-12-10

Subject: The Last Inning! / Posted by: Kenneth Brown / 05/11/10

    North carolina Fishing reports 5-11-1.jpg

Yesterday was a home run in the last inning. We spent the morning finding much better water conditions and over all better fishing. Still all or nothing and we had a hard time getting a turn. Our turn on the tuna would come late with a single and then five at one time. Glad to see the improving conditions and to hear of a little better fishing for the fleet. Thanks!

    North carolina Fishing reports 5-11-2.jpg

Headed south on Saturday looking for yellowfins and running from the wind. We made the day and got a turn on the yellowfins. We caught five out of seven one time and lost a couple another. We did find seven small dolphin around some card board. Still green water but things would start getting better during the early part of the week. Thanks!

    North carolina Fishing reports 5-11-3.jpg

One more try on Friday with the water conditons still a little tough. On this trip we caught our bluefin. The fish were getting far north and the weather would keep us from chasing them on Saturday. It has been a good run but this might be our last bluefin. Thanks!

Subject: Hit or Miss Fishing! / Posted by: Kenneth Brown / 05/11/10

    North carolina Fishing reports 5-11-4.jpg

We have had the same fishing for the last couple of weeks. Hit or miss is the best way to describe it. The one consistency we have had is the bluefins. Thursday found us chasing them one more time. Water conditions seemed to be getting a little worse and the bluefins were staying on the north end of what water we had. Our only bite came in the middle of the day but we were not fortunate enough to hold on to the tuna. Cold green water is the one condition that we have a hard time dealing with and on Thursday it proved to be our down fall. Fortunately, our group has had good days before and hopefully will give us a chance to make it up to them in the future. Thanks!
