Non-Extreme fishing (flattery by imitation)

Brian took us wahoo fishing last Wednesdsay, Sept. 21. Marty has already posted some pics of that trip. It was a blast! We caught wahoo (5 ranging between 30 & 50 lbs) dolphin and kings.
On Saturday, Sept. 23 the weather was calm, so we decided to take the Slip-Slide (Nick P's 21 contender to the rock and try to play "being Bryan"). Well it worked, kind of. We went one for three on the wahoo (lost one on a broken 75 lb spro and another came unbuttoned after ripping the red planer spoon for 100+ yards with 25+ lbs of drag! That last one was a slob! Also caught a couple of kings, a skip jack and one bailer.
Ridding a calm 6 ft swell in a 21' boat at 35 knots was a blast!

Marty makes bringing in the fish look easy! However, that's a pretty wahoo you're holding there! Isn't fishing grand!

Grand it is!

Marty makes fishing fun. Bryan makes it easy!
Thanks for the compliments on the wahoo. The two fish we missed seemed better yet. Pictured is my fishing partner Nick P (designated angler!)

so help me

OK Mr. Wahoo, it's the least I can do.
Arrived HI Tuesday, Sept 20. Flounder fished the CL jetty that afternoon. No flounders. Lots of seabass (including several keepers) and several baby gags near the rocks.
Fished offshore with you and Brian on Wednesday, Sep 21. Great fun in the big swell. Excellent catch as you previously posted
Fished for drum in the sound with Brian on Thursday. Report posted here. Great day, lots of fun.
Took Nick's 21 contender ("Slip Slide") to the East side on Friday, Sep 23. Water was very dirty. Looked for bottom at chicken rock. Never found it. Bailed small mahis on weedpatches. Caught beeliners and sea bass at the Atlas. Left an anchor there as a gesture of gratitude. Went to the Dwreck played with small gags and large sharks. Had a fish fry to end all fish fries that evening. Rigged and brined ballys until midnight
On Saturday, Sep. 24 the Slip Slide was on it's way to the Big Rock at first light. Lots of activity just inshore of 90 ' drop. Put them out. All blue and white trackers and witches. Red drone on the planer. 4 bites in the first 25 minutes. Two kings, a dolphin and a slob on the way back bait that broke the 100 lb spro swivel. Captain Nick said screw this, I want to be on the rock. To the rock we go. The current is screaming. We stay at 40 - 45 fathoms north and south for 2 hours. No nibbles. We head inshore to AR302. Nailed the pictured wahoo on the way back bait very near the numbers. From there to the north edge of the rock. The stud of the day eats the red spoon down and comes straight to the top in the middle of the spread. The Avette 30 is locked down, but that sucker is peeling 50 lb test like it's on free spool. Lost the fish at the end of the first run. Must have torn the hook out of him with all that drag.
One more strike on the rock, a skipjack destined to be sushi for my family.
Rode the swell fast on the way home. Just did beat the storms.

When we got to Calico's, I found out that Wahoon'thebox himself had paid us a visit, bringing video of past bluewater adventures and even a DVD to play it on. Man you are something special, and we love you for it! Sorry we wern't there. Jennifer, the boys and I got to relive our Memorial weekend billfish adventure on the Runoff. Thank you and Jake (Overboard) for all the care you put into that video.

So, that's the end of my story. Woke up early Sunday morning and rushed home to see my bride and babes who I'd missed a great deal.

My thanks to Captain Brian and you for making this year's HI excursion the best ever.

See you soon!
Nick (SeaBiscuit)

PS John walked me through how to post pictures on the member galleries, so I have some there now (under SeaBiscuit) and will continue to post as i get some more.
