Need advice on areas to vacation to fish

Hello, iv searched the web and can't really find any info. Im planning a vacation to go to a beach, any where from Virginia to South Carolina.

I want to go some place that has good offshore fishing (charter) that doesnt cost an arm and leg, since i'll likely be going alone. And would really like to try to get a Marlin.

Last year Dad and I went to Myrtle Beach in August, weather was crap, but it broke the day we went out, water was really warm. I only caught a shark, and he got nothing. The charter guys, I thought did a good job trying to put us on fish, they just didn't bite, on their radio, no one was catching any fish that day.

But, back to the question, what areas would you recommend for good fishing charters to possibly could get far enough out for Marlin and not cost over a grand? If thats even possible. I know at Myrtle Beach we didnt/couldn't get that far out for marlin, and that was fine. But id like to possibly have a chance at em this year. I just need to get an idea of what locations to look at.

Price may be your most limiting option. Unless you want to do a make up trip or walk on you could do it for that budget. But as far as booking a trip for a grand to target Marlin that will be tough.

As far as areas to fish. Any port on the Outer Banks. Will give you a good shot. Only problem i see there for you is not much of a family vacation area. Fishing and surfing or the beach. It is a wonderful place but limited.

For an all around vacation spot and some of the best Marlin fishing close to home would be Ocean City Md in august/sept. White Marlin fishing has been insane the last few years. Only thing is its right in the middle of hurricane season.
Ocean City is really family friendly

Good Luck with your search, Hope this helps

That does help. Looking at charters for marlin it looks like your right,, hard to find one a grand or less... Kinda hard to swing going solo. Maybe ill wait till I go to Aruba in a few years to spend that kinda cash, Iv heard (heard being the keyword) thats great fishing down there, especially for Marlin.

I am also open to mahi mahi, king macrel, etc those types a little closer in to be realistic. The charter we went with last year was like $750 for a full day IIRC, thats what they targeted.

Ill check out Ocean City. I should have also mentioned my week is the first of June.

If you consider a open boat trip (split the offshore charter costs with other people) you can fish for 2-3 days at under $1k total.

Most charter boats do open boat trips and keep a list of people interested on them to fill up trips
