The air temps were not the only thing heating up this past week. The near shore bite really took off and it was fun to finally breakout some ultra-lite tackle and fish for something other than Sharks. Schools of Spanish Mackeral have remained in the waters just off the islands beaches for the past week and a good time was had by many anglers. It wasn't "as good as it gets", but was nonetheless, very rewarding and fun. While we caught dozens of Mackeral and a few Jacks and Bluefish, we also improved on the "Shark"bite that has been going on for the last month or so. Plenty of larger Sharks such as Blacktips,Lemons and Duskys were in the inshore sandbars and flats, and many of them exceeded the 50 lb mark. No sign of any schools of Tarpon just yet, but with a little luck and some more warm weather, its just a matter of time. Hopefully by next weeks report. To all the Dads who have taken their sons and daughters fishing; Happy Fathers Day!
