well marty it looks like i am on vacation a week too early. i will be down in hatteras next week (sept24-oct2). will be doing mostly surf fishing for reds and whatnot with my lovely bride but am open to a boat trip if it should arise.
i don't think you are that far from where i am staying. just a couple of boat rides i would guess.

Short ferry ride from Hatteras to Ocracoke, then drive to ferry terminal at south end of Ocracoke. Then the long (2hr 15min) ferry ride to Cedar Island - $15/vehicle and reservations recommended (http://www.ocracoke-nc.com/ferry-cedar/ )

Finally, a nice drive from Cedar Island down to Morehead City area.

We did it northbound at the end of April...
