Keeping Aleve and Advil in business

Man what good trip for the old drum over the past week. SHUNT, myself and few visitors enjoyed an incredible old drum bite.

Arrived at the "Shack" on 9/4 late afternoon early evening, took a bit to make bait. EMC was already on it along with DAMIFINO and others that were talking on the radio.

We got set up at 9pm and proceeded to take the edge off for the next hour and half with a good evening bite. Waves and wind were building so we saved the energy and headed in.

Friday woke up to Pre Hannah. Weather was nasty and went downhill quick. SHUNT and I went out right by ourselves hearing EMC and 2 others out there in the slop as well. Easily 4 foot and close together by noon. Headed to hill to ride it out with only 0-2 for the fish and the news that a tornado touched down in Davis, NC and was headed NW at 18 mph right toward us.

Hunkered down till Saturday afternoon late and headed back out and got on 'em good from 8-11, very excited was the crew of the Shortbus this night.

Sunday EMC kicked ass and took names with a colossal epic bite. Down East guide boys were getting their share as well with some having a great day. We only caught a few and were ok with that.

Monday, on the anchor by 2 first fish to the boat by 230 and it continued till 8pm. Singles, double headers, triple headers, quads and even had 5 on at once one time. Best old drum bite I have ever had.

Tues EMC still on it Down East guides getting 'em as well.
We found another decent spot late in day and caught a few more before a wall cloud headed over the river mouth and ran everyone off.

I want to thank Capt Brian, Pastor Lupton, Killin' Time, DEGS, for patiently answering questions from me about this fishery over the past 5 years. These boys are setting the bar high for all others to continue to strive for. Also, the good lord for giving me the ability to use what I was given. A huge thanks to the local guys down there for the hospitality on the water and the radio.

Shortbus broke its daily record this trip and set a new yearly record which I will continue to work on till the season quits. Then it is time for the wahoos and sails.

Here is a quote from DEGS fishing report page for ya...
"I have been very reluctant to post the numbers that we sometimes catch. If everyone catches 2 or 3 fish, that's a great day, but today, betweeen the 4 Down East Guides on the water, we landed over 200 citation red drum. Congratulations to Capt. Brian Harrington who set the bar so far up there, I never want to try and break that record. He quit with 100 releases".

Brian, contgrats on a great "Old Drum" season, glad you are getting them. Now as far as Wahoos and Sails, your backing up. Had a great day on the break on Tuesday... When the wind don't blow...you should go...

We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
and all are different colors....but
they all exist very nicely in the same box.
