Inshore:Well it looks as though the groundhog may have been right earlier this month! Another week of warmer than average temperatures has shot our local water temps up into the mid 50's, and the fishing is starting to show it. While the Reds are still consistently being found in large schools on shallow water flats, we have begun to get in some reports where they are already starting to be found around docks and rock piles, usually a sure sign that we have broken out of the doldrums of winter and moving into our spring season. Live shrimp, mud minnows, cut mullet, Gulp! baits, and ZMAN soft plastics (be sure you add pro-cure to your ZMAN baits) have all been great producers. Believe or not, but we have actually heard of a few trout being found already. While there has not been any consitent numbers on the trout yet, the ones being caught have been found in 6-10ft of water using suspending baits (such as the Mirro-Lure MirroDine or Bomber's Ba-Donk-A-Donk SS series) or finesse style soft plastics.Looking for a new finesse rod for trout? Come check out the Loomis "Walleye" rods we have in stock. Don't let the walleye name fool you, these things are as sensitive as money can buy, and come with virtually indestructible "recoil" guides. Absolutely awesome!
Sheepshead are still being found in good numbers, with the bite starting to turn back on very well inshore around the jetties, bridges, and rock piles located near deep water access. And while the sheepshead are doing well inshore the past week, the nearshore reefs are also holding some nice balck drum and sheepshead up into the 9# range. Fiddlers and clams as always will be your baits of choice to catch these.
Offshore:Lots of E to NE winds over 20knots has kept everyone in the slips recently.
