Hotel help in SC
Hey folks, were are headin to Charleston SC in late june. Our charter will be at the Charleston City Pier (i think that is the name). Need some reccomendations for hotels. Not trying to get fancy here. We are gonna be 6 fisherman that just need a place to sleep and relatively close to the charleston resturant and nitelife area or the marina.
thanks

Nothing in Charleston is going to be cheap...unless you want to sleep in a smelly room somewhere. By June the prices will be through the roof at most places.
I've generally had good luck with prices and accommodations at the Sleep Inn just off the base of the bridge in Mount Pleasant. Unless I'm staying downtown somewhere that's pretty much where I'll be...either there or the Sleep Inn on 17 West of the Ashley. The Masters Inn just before the bridge in Mount Pleasant is the absolute cheapest place in the area...stayed there once when I needed a spot to rest my head on the way through town one night. Will NEVER spend my money there again. Way bad place, but it is cheap if that's all you're looking for. Looking at Expedia I see they are in the $50-$80 range for late June. The Sleep Inn in Mount Pleasant is up to $110-$150 during that time frame. I stay there quite a bit, but might look somewhere else due to the cost during peak season. There is also a Days Inn and a Red Roof Inn at Patriot's Point in Mount Pleasant under the $100 mark. The Best Western just across the Ravenel Bridge on the peninsula looks good at just over $110-$130. This gives you the convenience of being in Charleston and probably close to your marina.. Above anything, I would suggest booking in advance online. Use a few of the online discount stores to find your best price...then call the hotel and see if they will beat it for you. Then book with whichever is cheapest. Good luck! You'll enjoy Charleston...my favorite place in the world. I guarantee if you drive downtown during the daylight and take in any of the awesome sites, you'll want to take the wife back sometime. It's awesome to stay in one of the older hotels or a bed & breakfast, eat at a few of the fine dining experiences the city has to offer, drive or walk the old historical streets, and maybe take a private carriage ride. It's a magical city. Jay

This is funny...I didn't even think about it until I hit the submit button for my above post and saw it come up. My avatar picture was taken on one of Charleston's last remaining cobblestone streets. Ironic.

You're right. The round Holiday Inn looks to be in the $120 range that time of year. Not bad considering its location. This hotel is right across the Ashley River from the marina...actually it's located at the foot of the bridge right between the two lanes of traffic. Excellent location for sure. I didn't even consider it as I thought it would be too expensive...cheaper than I thought!
Good luck. Jay

Squid, what boat are you fishing on? There is a Marriott very close to the City Marina, within walking distance. You will have to cab or drive to most of the bars and restaurants although Salty Mikes is right there at the marina, good for a game of pool with the locals and could have some nice scenery. PM me for a list of great restaurants if needed, oh yea, can you bring me a matanza lure??
