Ok... I guess its time for an ol Deep intervention here.

Put a sock in it... I see some validity in your words but then I see a vile delivery and a bit of overreaction... Its suggested before... If you want to pound your chest, putting what boat you work on is in order.

It seems no good deed goes unpunished. Being a good guy is a sure way to get crapped on by those who own values or lack of them don't understand kind gestures.
I offered up in the past for people to join me over in the islands also for raw expenses. Not adding in dockage, crew, or anything other than fuel, hotel, and air... Almost immediately I was greeted with the same crap you are facing here and other places.. "Oh you're chartering... Oh you're steppin on the toes of the local charter boats..." I do own a charter boat, but she has been sitting on land for two years now. I run a private boat. The place we fish has no charter boats to interfere with.
Some people are just plain mean spirited. My only motivation was to have some company while we beat on a very fertile piece of water... I put up what it actually costs to be there versus what portion we wanted in return. The malcontents changed tune. Oh the hotel or airline is "kicking back"... What a crock. A couple went so far as to "notify authorities" who did check and found us doing nothing wrong!!!
Again it boils down to people who do no good and can't understand doing good.
If you were offering up the exact same things as local charters I could see a conflict. Instead I see you offering up a laid back late out, early back, not so hard core option that might help out someone who otherwise can't afford a full scale charter.
You do what you feel good doing. Screw the rest. I got thrown off a site who thought I was chartering "Because You used to". My comeback to that was "I used to have dark hair, I used to drink like a fish, hell I used to be a virgin..." Down came the axe...
A word of caution though: The Hatteras boys can be an ugly bunch. I fished a private boat there for a couple weeks with its owner. Not even any friends. I got not only a cold shoulder but even had a couple blatant attempts by a couple of them to run me out of the native cut and aground...

PS: Deepwater you are an embarassment to the Deep name...

Just based on that, and his praise of the so-called proffesionals, his motive is not to harm the charter people.

There is a disagreement. That is what I see, and sometimes it is best to agree to disagree.

I join different forums to find fishing buddies to share costs. Even then, it is hard to find people who have the time & money to spend. I try to fish during the week, so that does make it a little harder.

I will say that if I had never bought any boats and just spent the money instead on chartering, I would be way ahead of the game! But then, I wouldn't have had so many exciting close calls or seen the east coast from Key West to Nantucket and west to the Great Lakes and East to the Bahamas.

Everything is all in your attitude. Alex has one heck of a good attitude. He would be welcome on my boat anytime.

    Capt. Mark,

I appreciate the kind words. Even though I was a bit embarassed when I read them. Frankly, my preference would have been to remain a fairly anonymous figure as I was the last time I slipped a boat in the Hatteras area.

Where do you fish out of? I just may take you up on your offer and climb aboard to wet a line with you some day.

    Evening Deep C,

Yes, Sir. This thread and a couple others on other sites have caused me a bit of heart ache and more than a little soul searchin' That said, as you said, I can only do what I genuinely believe is "right".

One thing, while there are some mean spirited types just about anywhere you go, be it inland or at any port and it sounds like you may have run across a couple at Hatteras, I have spent enough time in Hatteras over the years to know that the vast majority of the local professionals genuinely are friendly, creditable people with a strong work ethic and moral values. Personally, I like them; and that has made this thread difficult for me at times.

PS Speaking of heart ache .... the dog didn't make it and had to be put down. I can deal with some ridicule from some who don't believe where i'm comin' from, but puttin' down a 3 year old Dobe who was just hittin' his prime is almost too much.

Here's a recent picture of my wife with Silas before he fell ill.

Not really just been around about as long as the site... That bein said I'm gonna guess I'm about twice your age and when you get that many laps around the sun you learn a thing or two along the way. You're biggest trick in life is to live as long as I have when you're runnin your mouth as hard as you do... This site doesn't tollerate bashing which seems is your only reason for being here... Try bringing something positive to the site...

Alex - Sorry to hear about your loss. Silas looked like a very healthy & happy Dobe in that pic with your better half. Dogs bring such joy to our lives. I know you will miss Silas but I bet he had a great life in the time he was here. My condolences.

    Thank you Capt. Mark.

I very, very much appreciate the sentiment.

God has blessed me in many ways; however, I'm afraid dealing with the loss of one of our dogs is not my best thing.

    Thanks again.
