I do not need to waste your money over dinner....

Simply.Do not advertise over the internet.Just take your buddies fishing for expenses.I have NO problem with private boats....as long as they act like private boats.I will & have treated the "local" private boats with respect as long as they treat the charter fleet with respect.Just don't try & take what little business we have away.On more question. If your such a good captain why pay another to bring your boat up from Fla?

Here's what I wrote in post #27 of this thread

I can't hold a candle to the likes of Rom or Jim, etc. etc. and I'll readily admit that. Heck, even a youngster like Joe Seegers has forgoten more than I know about fishin' offshore. BTW, I was sorry to learn he left Hatteras and is now otherwise engaged in the Wilmington area. He's a heck of a good guy.
Second, in addtion, before I hooked up with Jim Ashley, there were only three of us on the boat, one of whom, who is the older freshwater fishing buddy of mine my kid brother referred to who doesn't know anything about running a boat offshore.

The other guy, Drew Cooper has plenty of experience. However, that meant there were only two of us who could take turns at the wheel. On a trip of that length, I thought it would be prudent to have a third guy who really knew what he was doing.

Third, I'd run 33 to 37 footers (in addition to the 24 footer), but had only taken turns at the wheel on vessels over 37'. I figured a guy like Jim could teach me a few things. Turns out, I learned a ton from him.

Fourth, (and you're probably not going to believe this last reason) I knew Hatteras was being hurt hard by the overall state of the economy and I wanted to help a smidge by putting a little money into the local economy.

Many of my friends are also hurting. Fortunately, some still have a few bucks to fish. I'm simply trying to find some more guys who can't afford to charter and otherwise would have to go without fishing offshore altogether.

I was willing to sit down with you at dinner to try and determine a game plan that would asure you that that is the case in name & deed.

I don't want to sound all mushy. But as I've stated, I've liked the Hatteras area and the people in it for decades. I'm on your side.

I don't know what else I can do to try and convince you I'm on the up & up.

It's simple Alex, stick to taking your friends and don't solicit any of thier potential customers off the internet or dock.

By the way excelent post Drop Back very well said.

Where are the moderators anyway, why is Mr, craig being able to advertise of the site if he is not paying!

How about all the guys that are paying!

I don't get it, why is has he allowed to solicit from thier potential customer base?

I am thinking about opening a BBQ restaurant. I am hoping that the government can step in and outlaw home BBQ pits, so whoever wants to eat BBQ will be forced to eat at a restaurant.

    Think about it.

Better yet. Pouring lead is hazardous, so no one should be able to make jigs at home. Maybe folks will step in and self impose a rule that you can only buy store bought jigs.

Name calling tweaks me out a little because then its not discussion anymore. Keep hiding behind your alias' you gutless bastards. Your a bunch of scared little girls who aren't man enough to show your faces.

    Think about that.

Judging by the number of slick calm, 5-10kt days this summer that Buddy Hooper, Rom Whittacker, and "Citation" (can't remember his name) were at the dock, I seriously doubt this guy is "stealing" a ton of business from anyone...Even though the rental cottages seemed to stay full, restaurants were not packed and most of the charter fleet were in their slips. People are renting these cottages, surf-fishing, and eating Beanie Weenies, saving any money they can. Its a shame that things are the way they are now..but hopefully it'll bounce back in the near future. Just my 2c.

Agreed. If I go down there, I fish with Patrick and will continue to do so, for as long as he is there anyway. He has a ton of knowledge. Plus he and I click.

However, I did check for myself and this guy is just fun fishing. He is not charging charter rates at all, only expenses and I disagree with people challenged that.

If any moderation needs to be done here, it would be to ban the alias names and be done with it. Clean up the thread and move on.

    My First Post

This is one dangerous thread to weigh in on for a first post. I think that Alex is a stand up guy for replying to every challenge/insulting thread and even inviting the poser's to dinner. Makes me think of that term "What would Jesus do"?

Just based on that, and his praise of the so-called proffesionals, his motive is not to harm the charter people.

There is a disagreement. That is what I see, and sometimes it is best to agree to disagree.

I join different forums to find fishing buddies to share costs. Even then, it is hard to find people who have the time & money to spend. I try to fish during the week, so that does make it a little harder.

I will say that if I had never bought any boats and just spent the money instead on chartering, I would be way ahead of the game! But then, I wouldn't have had so many exciting close calls or seen the east coast from Key West to Nantucket and west to the Great Lakes and East to the Bahamas.

Everything is all in your attitude. Alex has one heck of a good attitude. He would be welcome on my boat anytime.
