Obviously, he felt his older brother needed a little support.

Actually, he spent a week in Hatteras with me some years back. Unfortunately, the weather and fishing didn't cooperate very well.

I've been PM'ing people about the costs as I got a couple of intial complaints about my stating them on a forum. I edited the info out of the posts early on to try and get along.

To answer your general question, to date my crews have been happy to split the expenses between themselves. I presume they figure the cost of the boat payments, marina fees, insurance & maintenance were sufficient as my share. That said, I'd be happy to pony up a percentage of the day's cost for any crew that felt that would be appropriate.
Thanks for the reply Alex. Clears everything i had questions about and your PM was well understood. Shoot me a message if you are in need, and if i don't have any conflicts i may try to make it happen. Right now though, if i get a shot and i can get out of VA for swordfishing that will probably be my trip of choice at the moment, but if my buddies and my schedules conflict i will shurely try to take you up on that open offer.

No problem.

Good luck with the swordfishing.

I'd be happy to just see one. I've never even seen a dead one in the whole.

Over the last 20 years, my wife has gotten used to me dragging her out of restaurants while issuing a mild rebuke to the maitre d' where I saw them on the menu. That may have been a bit over the top on my part.

I'm not caught up, as yet; but I gather the population is on the rebound?

[QUOTE=bigg09;771762]As a first time poster, i hope you are real and will assume you are a friend of his. [QUOTE]

Yes, I am a real person, and yes as Alex has stated I am his kid (?) brother.

Although he's not a social butterfly, I would like to think that he has made some friends down there over the years. He has been fishing that neck of the woods for quite some time, even though his current boat is new to the area. He did have 24-26 ft SeaRay (I believe) that he used to tow down there from PA, and kept at one of the local marina's, and a 36'(?) of another make. Obviously I am not a boat owner, nor do I espire to be! I did go with him to Hatterus once, and it seemed to me a lot of the locals at the marina knew him, as well as the waitresses at the local eating establisments!

The crappy economy of the past 10 years or so forced him to sell his boat and regulate his fishing to the fresh waters of the north east. And if I may, I would like to recant a story of kindness. He had a fishing buddy who used to go with him to various fresh water rivers and streams in the northeast, who fell ill to a pretty extensive stroke. This guy couldn't even move for like a year let alone fish. Well after some progress in rehab, he was able to move about a little but was not able to drive, nor even communicate very well. For 3 years Alex picked this guy up, took him fishing, and dropped him off. We're talkin 20-40+ trips a year! He's always loved fishing and just wants to spend a few years while he's still able enjoying what he's always loved.

It's a pretty big sandbox down there, I don't see why we all can't just get along. At the very least, at the age of 62 I think someone has earned the right to be left alone.

Will does not advertise on the internet............

He takes friends. He also joined the association when he got his big boat.He is no longer a member & does not solicit from a customer base off the internet. All you have to do Alex is retract your advertising and fish.I promise you it will be better for everyone.Just think if suddenly we had ten or more retired boat owners show up here all advertising on the internet to take people out fishing for expenses.......You can see how it upsets the guys who depend on fishing to pay their bills.

But you don't have ten or more retired boat owners up there, do you? It's just one guy that want's some people to go fishing with. It's absolutely no different than when I ask guys if they want to go fishing to help offset expenses. I don't fish nearly enough because of that thing called work. If I didn't have to work though, I'd be out on the water all I could and I wouldn't want to do it alone so I'd take people as well.

Get off your high horse dfishman.

Whats the difference in passing around a sign up sheet at a club meeting and having people sign up online?

None, as far as I can see. Both methods bring people to town that wouldn't be there otherwise.

I have fished with alex for many years on and off as travel to Hatteras would allow .I am glad to call him a freind. and can assure you guys he is not trying to harm your buisinesses and never will. Most of the guys we get to fish with us either own their own boats or fish with somebodey that does. Not the type of clients charter boats get ,make up trips or not. I have a small boat called PEQUOD berthed in Chincoteauge VA and i fish alot ! When alex gave up his last boat I would trailer my boat to hatteras landing and stay for 5 to 10 days and spend my money in local resturants ,hotels marina stores ect.I may not be patronizing the charter fleet but i do help your local tourism economy You know where your wives and or other family members might work. Also for the amount of time alex can spend fishing i know he has reffered more potential crews to the charter fleet than he has ,or will ever fish with
bottom line stop bitchin and go fishing

As a local contractor that works in the outer banks, the fishing community should know that any person that comes to the OBX right now and brings others should be welcomed with open arms. If you have not been paying attention to the local real estate market on Hatteras island, you should think before you speak. Without an occassional big boat in the marinas, guests coming to fish with them, you may not have a place to dock your charter boat, your slip fees will continue to increase, fuel prices will rise higher, tackle, ice, etc.. will continue to go up. Wake up and look at the big picture. Anybody coming to hatteras island right now (accept peta and the audubon society nuts) should be welcomed with open arms. Just think, if they have a great trip, they will go tell their buddies, most likely they won't be able to go with alex, Where will they go to the charter boats. I have patronized the hattersas fleet over the years as well as at least one charter a year from a good buddy out of OI. don't make excuses for no charters, go get them!!! You don't see the Canyon Runner, Canyon Express, Bite Me, Etc... Bitching online like this, get a name and go get clients, market accordingly and post success stories. You will see more success out of reports than you will in complaining. Good thing you did not post your boat name on here, because it would probably put a bad thought in someones mind before they book you. The rest you prove through your fishing and it will show in your bookings. I've said my peace.

That's a fact! I DOUBLE DOG DARE the following folks to let people know who they are and what boats they fish.

Sunburn
Deeepwater
dfisherman

Or just keep hiding behind the keyboard. Your choice.

And before you start taking shots at me, I have brought two groups to hatteras this year, one in March and one in May, and we went on a chartered boat both times.
