Hatteras Jack fishing report Rodanthe 725

    Fishing report
HOT, HOT, HOT!! There’s a hole on the south beach around Frisco where there have reportedly been lots of drum caught!!. Zach at Red Drum said he was hooking up at every cast. A famous fisher lady came in the tackle shop Sunday and said she lost a big one.
Other than that, the beach fishing has been a little slow, with the hot temperatures and southwest winds. South beaches have seen some pompano (lots of small ones), as well as some nice sea mullet. There have also been a few bluefish caught.
Spanish mackerel have been caught on Cape Point, along with some bluefish, small pompano. Shark fishing is good at dusk and dawn.
Northern Hatteras beaches have been productive for plenty of spot. Fishers have been getting into them at every cast. This is especially fun for the kids!!
Use the spot for cut bait and you’ll get some sea mullet. Remember to fish the wash.

There was a bit of chop last weekend that kept some boaters in port. When things lay down later this week, anglers should be able to get some flounder around the inlets, as well as plenty of blues and Spanish inshore and near shore. Speckled trout, along with gray trout, have also been a good catch in the sound. Remember you can only keep one gray trout, with a total length of 12 inches. Specks must be 14 inches and you can keep six of ‘em.

Sheepshead are still biting around the Bonner Bridge. Drop it down beside the pilings with a sand flea and get ready for a fightin’ good time.
There have also been some stripers landed around the bridge. Remember to fish the east side of the bridge and you can keep two per day if they’re 28 inches.
The Hatteras offshore fleet has been bringing in gaffer and bailer dolphin, as well as a few wahoo and some amberjacks. Billfish flags began to fly this month at Hatteras marinas. Blue marlin, white marlin and sailfish were all released on a regular basis. Sails have been pretty thick.

    Fishing forecast
IT'S HOT!! Southwest winds were expected to persist for much of the week. There is a predicted switch to the west on Tuesday. We’ve also had an extreme heat wave that kept beach fishers sweating. Remember to take plenty of water. I know most fishers take some cold beer, which is just fine by me (actually, that's the way I like to do it). Just but try to swill some water between each top you pop.
